A Montana Rancher's Perspective: How LandTrust is Changing the Game

Introduction

In the heart of Montana, where rolling hills meet vast open skies, rancher Jim Melin shares his experience using LandTrust. In this exclusive interview, Jim provides insight into how the platform has transformed his ranching operation, benefiting both his family and the hunters who visit his land.

Interview with Jim Melin

Taylor: Jim, how has LandTrust been working out for you so far?

Jim Melin: Oh, it's been working real well. My wife, Betsy, handles most of the business and book work, but I still give directions and plenty of advice to hunters. I’d say it’s been a success—we’re already booked solid! Betsy even had to block off a few days here and there just for family.

Taylor: That’s great to hear! How have the guests been?

Jim Melin: So far, they’ve been great. They love the exclusive access they get out here, and they’ve been real respectful of the land. We try to be as anti-disruptive as possible, but we do enjoy chatting with them. Seems like they enjoy that part, too.

Taylor: What do guests appreciate most about staying on your land?

Jim Melin: People love staying in the old cow camps, soaking in the peace and quiet way out in the hills. It’s something special to be away from all the noise and just be surrounded by nature.

Taylor: How has LandTrust made things easier for you compared to before?

Jim Melin: Oh, it’s been super easy—even for an old cow man like me! Before we started listing with LandTrust, we had up to 60 hunters at a time on our property. It was a huge hassle, trying to manage all that. Now, with fewer but better-organized bookings, we’re seeing bigger bucks and more elk sticking around. That’s a win for everyone.

Taylor: Has the local game warden been supportive of this change?

Jim Melin: Absolutely. Before LandTrust, he practically lived on our land, trying to keep up with all the chaos. Now, since we know exactly who’s out here, his job has gotten way easier. He hardly has to check in anymore, and he’s real supportive of the system.

Taylor: It sounds like LandTrust has been a game-changer for you. Would you recommend it to other landowners?

Jim Melin: Without a doubt. We needed the extra money, and this has been the best way to get it while keeping our land under control. It’s a great setup for anyone who wants to share their land with respectful outdoorsmen while keeping things manageable.

Conclusion

Jim Melin's story is a testament to how LandTrust is revolutionizing land access for both landowners and outdoor enthusiasts. By providing a seamless way to connect, the platform is making hunting experiences better while preserving the land and making land management easier. If you’re a landowner looking for a better way to manage access to your property, LandTrust might just be the perfect solution.
