LandTrust Team Picks: Our Favorite Turkey Hunting Gear
If you caught our last post, The Most Basic of Turkey Hunting Basics: A First Timer’s Guide, you already know the basics of chasing longbeards. Now that you're familiar with the "what" and "how," it’s time to dive into the “with what.”
In part two of our turkey series, we’re taking a look inside the vests, blinds, and backpacks of the LandTrust team. We asked our crew to share their single favorite piece of turkey gear—the stuff they won’t hunt without. From family-made box calls to go-to shotguns, here's what we're packing this spring.
1. Nic De Castro – Founder & CEO
Favorite Gear: Primos Jelly Head Choke Tube
Why He Loves It:
“I love this choke tube because it extends my range on birds I can't get to close the distance. With that choke tube I shot a bird at 62 yards after a long belly crawl through the mud on a timber road on Graham Farms in MO. Even at that range, I had full confidence in my pattern—and the bird dropped clean on the first shot.”

2. Colton Dombroski – Head of Landowner Operations
Favorite Gear: The Turkey Tote
Why He Loves It:
“My dad makes them out of whitetail sheds and a piece of leather. Before Sitka, Kuiu, and everybody else had a turkey vest variation, carrying a big tom back to the truck can be awkward—especially if you shoot a big one (you already know how I roll).
The turkey tote solves that. Loop around the spurs and throw it over your shoulder, keeping your hand at convenient waist height.”

3. Taylor Moyer – Landowner Marketing and Partnerships Manager
Favorite Gear: Handmade Box Call
Why He Loves It:
“I love my box call because it was made for me by a great uncle, and there’s just something special about calling in and harvesting a bird with a call that has family history behind it. I do most of my turkey hunting on the East Coast, where properties are often smaller and the terrain can be pretty steep. This call gives me the flexibility to adjust volume as needed—I can reach out to birds across property lines or tone it way down with soft clucks and puts when one’s closing in tight.”

4. Josh Roberts – Landowner Onboarding Specialist
Favorite Gear: Benelli Supernova
Why He Loves It:
“As a newer hunter, this gun has been awesome. Received a lot of advice from friends and family on which type of shotgun to purchase and landed on this 12-gauge 3-1/2in Black Pump Benelli Supernova. It's a reliable, high-performance turkey gun, and has been a great first shotgun to learn with. Been able to take it to some pretty neat locations across southwest and central Montana. Planning to take it out this spring to Northeastern Colorado. My goal is to one day achieve a Grand Slam, using my Supernova!”

5. Beth – Freelance Digital Marketer
Favorite Gear: Cabela’s Hip Pack
Why She Loves It:
“I’m a newer turkey hunter, so I’m still figuring out what works best for me—but one piece of gear I’ve quickly learned I can’t go without is a hip pack. It allows me to carry everything I need into the woods without being bulky or getting in the way. I hunt in the Midwest, so mobility and comfort are key when covering ground or setting up in tight cover. My hip pack holds calls, snacks, gloves, face mask—you name it—all within easy reach. It keeps my setup light, simple, and stress-free, which is huge when you’re still getting your feet under you in the turkey woods.”

What’s In Your Turkey Vest?
The LandTrust crew knows every hunter has that one piece of gear they swear by. Whether it’s a favorite call, a perfectly worn pair of boots, or a reliable shotgun, what you carry makes the hunt uniquely yours.
