A Homecoming Hunt: Mike and Carrie Lammers’ 5 Star Experience at Hasselstrom Farms

Returning to a Familiar Place

For retired couple Mike and Carrie Lammers, hunting is more than just a pastime—it’s a way of life. When they discovered LandTrust, it opened the door to new adventures and authentic connections with farm and ranch families. Their recent return trip to Hasselstrom Farms in northern Idaho was proof that some experiences only get better the second time around.

Discovering LandTrust: From Curiosity to Connection

Mike first stumbled across LandTrust while searching online for new places to hunt. Drawn in by the ability to explore properties directly managed by landowners, he quickly realized the platform was more than just a booking tool.

“I popped in Idaho and up came a list of places to hunt. I told Carrie, this one looks pretty dang close, let’s make a trip out of it,” he recalls. That decision led them to Hasselstrom Farms—and to a relationship that has grown over multiple seasons.

The Second Hunt: Old Friends and New Memories

Pulling their camper up to the farm, the Lammers were greeted with the kind of hospitality that makes LandTrust experiences stand out. “It was like old home week,” Mike said. Sheila and Eric Hasselstrom welcomed them back, giving them free rein to set up camp by the barn.

This trip brought a milestone: Carrie’s first turkey. Guided by Mike’s calling, she connected with a tom turkey weighing nearly 20 pounds. “She was super excited. It was really, really an exciting moment for her,” Mike remembers. The following day, he bagged a tom of his own—sealing another successful hunt on familiar ground.

More Than a Hunt: Farm-to-Table Flavor

Beyond the thrill of the chase, the Lammers discovered another joy of hunting with LandTrust—bringing home more than just stories. From Winchester Ridge Farms, part of the Hasselstroms’ operation, they ordered lamb and beef to take back to southern Idaho.

“It’s not anything like you buy in the store,” Mike explains. “It’s awesome.” That direct connection with ranch-raised food highlights how LandTrust experiences often go beyond the outdoors, supporting local agriculture while giving guests a true farm-to-table experience.

The Thrill of the Outdoors

For Mike—who has hunted across the U.S., Scotland, and even Africa—the rush of hearing a tom gobble close by is still unmatched. “It’s the same thrill as being 15 feet from a bugling bull elk,” he says. That adrenaline, combined with the quiet beauty of the Idaho countryside, keeps both him and Carrie coming back.

Looking Ahead: Expanding the Adventure

The Lammers aren’t stopping at Idaho. They’ve set their sights on a turkey grand slam, with trips planned to Texas, Florida, and possibly even Mexico. Still, Hasselstrom Farms remains a cornerstone of their hunting journey. “We’ve already booked the same timeframe for next year,” Mike says with a smile.

Why LandTrust?

For Mike and Carrie, LandTrust has become a trusted way to discover new places, make real connections, and create lasting memories. “It’s so much fun to travel, meet people like the Hasselstroms, and enjoy the outdoors together. We’re going to be using it again and again,” Mike says.

LandTrust connects sportsmen directly with landowners, opening access to private land for hunting, recreation, and outdoor adventure. Whether you’re chasing turkeys in Idaho, deer in Kansas, or waterfowl in Nebraska, the platform makes it simple to find your next five-star experience.
