3 Lazy S Ranch
3 Lazy S Ranch is a family ranching operation just south of Devils Lake, North Dakota. Our family proudly ranches over 2,500 acres of rolling grasslands and rangelands here in Benson County. Our ground is intermingled with the Spirit Lake Dakota Reservation.
The ranch is located in the Prairie Pothole Region of North Dakota, which provides a unique habitat for the deer, turkey, upland game, and waterfowl that call our area home.
Hunting opportunities are available for each of the above listed types of wildlife. For guests interested in birdwatching, fishing, or camping on the ranch, we have packages set up for that as well.
We ask that all guests are respectful of the 3 Lazy S cattle, making sure they are not bothered and all gates are left as found.
We have some great fishing opportunities nearby as well, that are definitely worth a visit during your trip. We are only 5 miles away from Black Tiger Bay, part of Devils Lake, which is known for great walleye fishing. Wood Lake is also another great walleye spot only a mile from the property.

This ranch has crops, cover, and plenty of water. I saw deer sign, pheasants and waterfowl on the ponds. This ranch also holds turkeys in the timber.

Terry and Jane were excellent host! The property was awesome, more land to hunt then we had time to. The cabin was very clean and top notch condition. We mainly hunting pheasants. We saw and shot enough birds to make it enjoyable.
Reviewed by Guest on October 2024 First of all, Terry Smith was an outstanding host. He made himself available to us if needed and was just a phone call away. Terry showed us all his properties and boundary lines prior to hunting. We could not ask for a better host. He is a cattle farmer not crop farmer. We lodged at his cabin for 6 nights as a hunting party of 6 upland game hunters. His double-wide was accommodating and clean while a few recommendations to better support 6 hunters such as a missing rack in the refrigerator, one top burner on the stove not working and the addition of clothes hooks or hanging space in bed rooms would be helpful. Also, the exhaust fan in the second bathroom was not working. As for pheasant habitat, there was no grain crops or food plots on his property which was something he might want to consider putting in. The pheasant cover and habitat was good for one day's hunt which Terry made clear to me up front and suggested before we finalized our trip. We used his cabin as our place of stay and other than the one day of pheasant hunt, we would drive to other locations away from his ranch and hunt in the Devils Lake region.

My trip to Terry's place had to be cancelled at the last minute due to weather/snow storm which hit MT and ND at the end of October. Terry was very helpful and was concerned due to road conditions into ND, calling in to make sure I was taking all precautions. I hope to get a chance to get up to ND hunt Terry's ranch soon.

Reviewed by Landowner on November 2023 Terry was a wonderful host. He gave us a tour of the property and showed us some great spots. We seen quite a few sharp tails and had a great time walking this beautiful property. We did not actually bag any birds this day but we believe weather conditions of 20mph winds with gusts up to 40 played a major role in our lack of success. THANK YOU, Terry for a great trip.

The property was everything we had hoped it would be. This trip was more of a learning experience than hunting everyday. Probably a couple weeks early as far as the birds being theee. But Terry and his wife Jane were very good host. I would definitely recommend them to other people. Terry was there to show us what we needed him to. We enjoyed them and the trip very much. Thanks Scott Broadaway.
