Real nice folks, and a very nice sustainable cattle operation. Unfortunately, and I hate to do this, I must be honest. While they went out of their way to be good host, there simply isn't the value per dollar. They just aren't hunters, so are making an honest error in their business model, in my opinion.. It typically takes a few hundred acres of good pheasant cover to support even an active family's hobby hunting. I had bet on them having some sort of special situation and thought I'd take a chance. The pastures are either grazed down, or have cows. The 7-10 yd wide fencerows are not pheasant cover, but woody brush. Nearly impenetrable but my 6 yr old pudelpointer tried like mad to find birds. So, you walk an unproductive fence line, walk back to your truck, move to the next unproductive spot. Even if there were birds, 2/3 of your time is re-covering ground, or moving to the next spot. Very inefficient. I had hopes for a couple of pasture patches Bruce pointed out to me, but they were brougham grass and thistles, and that marsh sawgrass - not pheasant cover. In doing the tour with Bruce, and hearing of his business expansion plans, I get the sense that they are looking to generate revenue by offering 'experiences'. Fine dining in the hayloft (above a working barn..), possible glamping, etc. However, for a pheasant hunter, there must be birds, especially as priced. I believe them when they say they hear birds in the farm yard in the evening, coming in to pick up cattle feed. However, no real signs of a population. Warm, dry windy day, but my dog is very good. Close by corn and beans were off. I'm a guide, 70 year old athlete / retired business owner, and just sold my 240 ac restored native prairie hunting property. I also ran a cow calf operation, owned my own herd, so I appreciate their excellent business. I was really hopeful this would work out for a day hunt. I'd thought I might be back for turkey (which looks promising), and whitetail, hard to get in one day. I think a whitetail hunter would have to live close by, get no-charge access to the property to pattern the deer, set up opportunity resources - blind/stands, etc. - and then pay to actually hunt, or the pricing is out of sync with the opportunities there as well. A fair way might be to charge less for access, and then a success fee. A fair way to offer pheasant hunting could be either throwing in more of their excellent beef, or if it was me, I'd charge $50 - 75/day for access and another $50 per shot fired, or something along those lines. Almost $200 a day thru LT is simply unrealistic. I hated to do this, but feel I have to be objective. Can't say enough about their responsiveness and hospitality, but I can't imagine them getting any repeat pheasant hunters as is.

LeeAnn and Bruce are very nice people. When I arrived, Bruce gave me an extensive tour of the property and where they've seen turkeys. He helped me set up my blind (in heavy winds) and made me feel very welcome. The property has rolling hills, water sources, and plenty of coverage, great for turkeys. Hunting for turkeys in the autumn can be unpredictable and challenging; I didn't have a turkey encounter, not surprising. However, I would like to come back next spring to try again in the peak turkey season!

Bruce met me the evening before my hunt and showed me around the farm, and where they see turkeys on a regular basis. The next morning I was greeted with multiple gobbling birds, it was fun working multiple birds at the same time! By 8am I was tagged out with a Minnesota Monster, that had multiple spurs on each leg, crazy! Great People, Great Farm with plenty of bird. Go Packers! lol
