It's not uncommon for elk and mule deer to transit through the ranch back and forth from nearby ag fields and into the foothills of the Big Belts.
The ranch is wide open, with not a lot of cover. Hunters may be able to take advantage of hiding in the draws to sneak up and get a shot off.
This hunt is probably more suited for rifle hunters; however, bowhunters could enjoy the challenge of the stalk.
We have border an additional 550+ acres of BLM and State Lands; however, this land is pretty easily accessible for the general public as well, so you may see other hunters on the public land.
RV camping is permitted for multi-day hunts, plus this is a great basecamp for hunting the nearby national forest as well.
About the Ranch:
Canyon Ferry Ranch is a 148-acre property featuring wide open and rolling terrain, nestled in the foothills of Big Belt Mountains. The ranch overlooks Canyon Ferry Lake to the west, which produces some breathtaking views especially come sunset and golden hour.
We are located in Broadwater County, which is part of the Big Game Hunting District 390, which is a general unit for big game hunters. Deer and elk frequent the property due to its prime location between nearby agricultural fields and Big Belts' mountain timber and draws. There's also some potential for antelope as well.
We have some additional public access that the ranch borders: a 484-acre piece of State land to the west and an 80-acre piece of BLM to the northwest. These parcels are fairly easy to access for the general public, so don't be surprised if you see other hunters on the public ground come hunting season.
We are conveniently located 15 minutes from the town of Townsend, 15 minutes from Canyon Ferry Lake, and about an hour from Bozeman and Gallatin Field Airport. The property is off a well-maintained county road, so we'd encourage folks to bring out an RV or camper and stay for a while!
