This two-hour experience includes immersion in the stars of the night sky and their stories. Participants will hear tales from many different cultures, including familiar Greek stories as well as others from across the globe. Guided by a professional astronomer, this tour of the night sky will include popular seasonal and circumpolar stars as well as a Q & A session.

Participants can book a single night of guided stargazing or multiple nights in a row. Please note that the price is per guest per session.

**Guests must book either the Opechee place or an RV site at the ranch as this is an overnight experience.**

Dates: The evenings of July 21, 22, or 23, 2024.

Itinerary

To ensure the best experience of the stars, it is necessary to start the experience well after sunset. The experience will begin with a night hike starting at 9. Red light flashlights will be provided to participants for wayfinding. The facilitator will arrive at your lodging to set up telescopes beginning at 9:30 p.m. and the stargazing (if Steve is available, the telescopes will be used) experience will begin promptly at 10.

Where will you be stargazing?

This experience is exclusive to those staying at Harmon Creek Cattle in Carter County, Montana. This area is known for containing Montana's first International Dark Sky Sanctuary as well as two other areas that are popular for astrotourism. On a clear night, participants will see the Milky Way and a sky full of stars without the obstruction of light pollution.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs or blankets to lie on the grass. Chairs and blankets will be provided.  It may be chilly after dark, even in July, so please have warm clothing available to wear.

Property Visited

This partnership between the Carter County Museum and Harmon Creek Ranch is truly a wonderful opportunity. The ranch is a beautiful location to partake in these hands-on, educational, and unique experiences. The museum itself and the employees are a true testament to the history of this area and the continued efforts to learn of our past.
