Flat Top Ranch
WELCOME TO THE FLAT TOP! (revised 5/8/25)
The ranch is located 30 miles SW of Forsyth, Montana. The location coincidently is 33 miles from Hysham / Forsyth / Colstrip.
The ranch goes back to homesteading days of early teens here in Rosebud County, Montana, with rock inscriptions dating 1899 on the property. The ranch has had four owners prior and downsized since, presently 1163 beautiful acres. We bought the ranch in 2005, living in Virginia for 60 years. We moved to Montana in 2009, where my son did did his years of high school in Hysham. The ranch was leased for 10 years and we started raising our own cattle in 2015. The ranch is isolated 20 miles from I94 at the end of a graveled Reservation Creek Road. The elevation approaches 4000’ and the views are AMAZING if you just want to be a sightseer/shed hunt/or bird watcher here for your visit. No humanity is in sight.
The ranch has been improved since with solar wells, water stations, cross fencing, whereby rotation/reverse grazing has improved the soil and health cattle. Recently the ranch was certified organic. Wildlife is abundant with elk/deer/antelope, birds and turkeys.
Hunt packages now available are mule and white tail archery which would continue into the gun season. Hanging facilities are available. Turkey hunts, spring and fall are available. The spring turkey hunts (4) for 2025 have been 100% successful with return requests for next year. The 4th and last hunting party is middle of May. Beautiful birds have been harvested. Next year’s spring turkey season will book six hunting parties, one a week. We have grouse and dove and will determine whether there will be a season here for them.
For the nonhunters, shed hunting / hiking / bird watching / or just getting away to a beautiful, remote, quite atmosphere are welcomed. Cabins are planned and one should be ready nest year.

Available Packages
I saw deer and elk scat at several different locations the ranch, both in the open and treed areas. While we drove through the hayfields some antelope popped up out of the brush. Wildlife has access to water throughout the property with the extensive amount of water tanks and the stream through the ranch. There are many lookout points that are great for scouting and making a game plan for your hunt.
