Hofeldt Livestock
Hofeldt Livestock is a family-owned and operated farm and ranch just south of Chinook, Montana. Our family homesteaded this land in 1892. To this day we continue to steward our land with our family's rich history in mind.
The property, about 10,400 acres in total, features three areas with diverse landscape and habitat.
Area 1:
About half a mile south of Chinook, this area consists of just over 755 acres right on the Milk River. In addition to our river bottom, we also have some cropland and pasture ground as well.
Area 2:
This should be our best spot for mule deer. We have 3,100 secluded acres of wide open prairie and grasslands with rolling hills. There's also some decent creek bottom with draws and small breaks.
Area 3:
Our biggest area is about 6,500 contiguous acres of rolling hills and prairie. The Bean Creek and Clear Creek both flow through the property. Around the Clear Creek will be sportsmen's best place to go for whitetail.
We are open to guests camping or RVing on the property; however, both Chinook and Havre offer nearby lodging and restaurant options.

This is a beautiful, well-maintained, very large ranch with a good population of a variety of big game and game birds. We saw antelope, mule deer and whitetail deer every day as well as pheasant, grouse, and partridge. We met with Max and his son Levi prior to hunting. They were both friendly, easy to visit with and forthcoming with information and ideas that helped make our hunt successful. Great people, great property. I hope to come back again.

The Hofeldt Livestock property is a true Montana, big sky & rolling hill gem! As others have said Max is a great person & takes land stewardship very seriously. Great times, great opportunities and great memories made on this trip.

My husband and I hunted Upland on this property for 2 days. Levi was very helpful. He gave great directions and suggestions. Loved the property itself. It was huge with good cover. We saw a healthly population of birds and would definitely visit again.

Wonderful and helpful host with a big and spacious property with abundant wildlife and habitat. Definitely a five star must for avid wildlife viewers and hunters.
Reviewed by Guest on April 2024 Max was absolutely amazing and very helpful! My Fiancé and I had a blast on our Varmint hunt! If you are looking for non stop shooting then this property is the way to go! It was so nice to get the lay of the land from Max and then be on your own to hunt where you want throughout the dog town! We will will definitely return to hunt with Max again!
Reviewed by Guest on June 2024Max, his wife, and son Levi were all great hosts! We had an open line of communication with Levi at all times. After lunch on the second day we had a chance to meet with Max. Salt of the earth type guy who really seemed to enjoy meeting new people. He seemed to genuinely want us to be successful. He steered us away from a location we had pulled out of thin air and pointed us to a better area. I could have sat and talked to Max all afternoon but the hunting on the property was good enough that I was anxious to go hunt! A+ experience and we will be back!

This is a very large and beautiful property, and we only had time to explore a small part of it. Hot weather on the first day of our hot limited the amount of time we actually spent hunting. We took some Sharptail grouse and also saw but did not harvest Huns. We also saw numerous antelope. The owners were easy to reach, friendly, and very helpful. We plan to come back in a future year.
