Sharptail grouse use the ranch’s rolling plains, native grasslands, sagebrush pockets, and coulees that cut across the prairie. Early in the season birds often hold tight in the grass, creating excellent opportunities for pointing dogs to locate coveys and lock up on point. Hunters can expect to cover ground across the open country, watching coveys lift off the prairie and working dogs through classic sharptail habitat.
Reach out if you'd like to hunt doves as well.
Note: Well-trained Bird Dogs are permitted.
About the Ranch:
Located in the wide-open country of southeastern Montana near the small town of Ismay, Meyer Ranch is a 4th-generation family cattle operation set among the rolling plains and big skies the region is known for. The property spans more than 9,000 acres of rangeland made up of rolling hills, ash draws, creek bottoms, coulees, and expansive grass flats that stretch to the horizon. Healthy grazing practices and large blocks of native grass provide strong wildlife habitat throughout the ranch. Food plots of alfalfa and other crops are scattered across the property, while natural water sources and sheltered draws create travel corridors and feeding areas for a variety of game species.
The open prairie terrain makes this property well-suited for hunters who enjoy covering ground and glassing across large expanses of country. The mix of grasslands, brushy draws, and creek bottoms creates bedding cover and feeding areas for multiple species. Upland hunters will find classic prairie habitat for birds, while big game hunters benefit from the natural movement created by coulees and drainages that cut across the ranch. With low hunting pressure and large, uninterrupted acreage, wildlife can move naturally across the property.
Lodging:
Sportsmen will have access to comfortable on-site lodging during their stay. The ranch offers a 2-bedroom, 1-bath lodge available to guests throughout their hunt. For larger groups, a spacious shop house can accommodate additional cots or air mattresses, depending on availability. RV hookups are also available, and hunters are welcome to park campers on the property if they prefer bringing their own setup. The combination of wide-open hunting ground and simple ranch lodging allows guests to settle in and spend full days exploring the prairie.
