Dry Creek Hideaway
Dry Creek Hideaway is operated by Feiring Cattle Company in Beach, North Dakota. Feiring Cattle Company is a family operation owned and operated by Donnie and Trisha, along with their two daughters, Harley and Taylor. Feiring Cattle Company is a program with heritage that stems from a cowherd Donnie’s grandfather, Arnold Feiring, started in 1945. Our herd originates back to 1983 when Donnie purchased his first QAS Traveler 23-4 daughter from his dad, Robert Feiring.
Today, our herd consists of 100 head of registered Angus cows. We have worked hard over the past 30 years to improve consistency and predictability in our herd. We feel we have been able to do this through using proven lines of genetics.
Our breeding program is geared toward the commercial cattlemen. We do not select for any extremes in performance, but demand functionality in our cattle. Our cowherd is selected for calm temperaments, fleshing ability, fertility, structural soundness, quality udders and a proper balance of milk and growth. We do not creep feed, because we believe these cattle should be able to maintain flesh without extra feed. Our cows run on dry land pasture and native range in the rolling plains and Badlands along the North Dakota-Montana border.
We have been practicing Holistic Resource Management for several years now and strive to raise cattle that are efficient, productive, uniform and consistent, trouble free, easy keeping and balanced. Our land is as important to our operation as the cattle that graze it. We want our land to be balanced with a diversity of forage for all seasons for feed and protection. We try to involve our two young daughters in all activities on the ranch, including work, play, and travel, so they are able to gain the knowledge and understanding of everyday ranch life.
