Dry Creek Mountain Ranch
The Dry Creek Mountain Ranch is the perfect destination for hunters looking for a general elk and mule deer unit close to the Bozeman area. The ranch consists of 894 acres right off Dry Creek Rd, southeast of Townsend. The ranch includes a nice stretch of Dry Creek flowing through the southern portion of the ranch and several spring-fed creeks throughout the more mountainous portions of the property, which provide a variety of water sources, abundant grasses, terrain and shelter for wildlife.
The terrain is made up of steep draws and canyons, with sagebrush and pockets of timber scattered throughout. There's a good amount of deadfall, which can make hiking difficult in areas. We have a couple creek bottoms that cut through the ranch, which are thick with vegetation.
A portion of the ranch borders 640 acres of National Forest land, in addition to other nearby public access. Access to this public piece is pretty intense, so come ready to hike. The region is well known for quality big game hunting and is within close proximity to thousands of acres of public lands for easy access to additional hunting.
The County Road provides easy access for RVs as well. With our access to our private ground and nearby National Forest, this could make a great basecamp for the Fall. This property is close to the friendly small town of Townsend and Canyon Ferry Lake for summer and winter recreation.
We are excited to not only be offering hunts this Fall for big game and grouse, but also outdoor recreation opportunities, like birding, foraging, and shed hunting.
We look forward to hosting you!

No fresh sign seen during the visit. Ambient temp ~85 and sunny…critters were hiding out in shade more than likely. No resident herds on the property; but the habitat no doubt supports transient populations, with ample forage and several sources of water. Canyons and coulees are prevalent thoughout the place, so make sure those boots are broken in nice.

Great property not for the faint of heart. Bring your hiking boots if you’re a ridge runner hunter that likes to get places that most don’t ,this property is perfect.
