Whitetail deer work the transitions between the grain rotation and Clarks Creek timber throughout the season, with natural staging points in the restored grassland buffer strips along the way. The creek bottom on the western boundary provides consistent bedding cover and a natural travel corridor between the cropland and the fenced pasture. A pond and stock tank round out the on-property water, giving hunters reliable reference points for pattern work and mobile blind placement.
The farm runs 87 acres in a wheat, soybean, and milo rotation alongside a 97-acre fenced pasture. Whitetail deer move through this ground consistently, working the edges between the cropland and the Clarks Creek timber, staging in the grassland buffer strips, and watering at the small pond and stock tank on the property. The mix of grain, forage, water, and wooded creek bottom gives deer what they need year-round.
Note: this is a working farm. There may be cattle on the fenced portion of the property (northeast) for some of the time that folks will be hunting. Please exercise caution when hunting around this part of the farm.
There may also be harvesting of the crops, which may interfere with the beginning of the hunting season. We will do our best to block out the dates this will be occurring. Important: during your hunt, please stay out of standing row crops prior to harvest.
Located in the Flint Hills of Morris County, this is a 212-acre property managed by Audubon of Kansas with the goal of keeping native wildlife habitat healthy while supporting working agriculture. The name comes from a long-gone settlement that once marked the edge of westward expansion across the Great Plains, and the ground still carries that open-country character, with ag fields, native grassland strips, creek bottom timber, and a riparian corridor along Clarks Creek that meanders in and out of the western boundary.
No bird hunting of any kind is permitted on the property.
Herington is about 6 miles away for fuel and supplies, and Council Grove is 21 miles east. Manhattan Regional Airport is approximately 53 miles northwest, and Wichita's airport is about 93 miles south.
By booking this property on LandTrust, you can be happy to know that your funds are directly supporting Audubon of Kansas' mission of protecting wildlife and wild places through advocacy, conservation, and education.
