Welcome to Guided Rock Farms!

We are young farmers attempting to start a regenerative-type farm operation in northwestern Nebraska. Our beginnings go back to 2019 when we were married at our first farm. We started from scratch (no inheritance, just a bit of land bought on loan) in the San Luis Valley, in southern Colorado. Due to community restrictions, our first farm struggled to grow as we had hoped. In 2021, my husband, baby, and I left Colorado for Nebraska to give it a shot on a larger scale. We were lucky to acquire an old farmstead through auction - now we are slowly bringing it back to life.

We follow regenerative agriculture practices and have the utmost respect for our land and animals. We desire to leave the land we farm in better condition than when we began our term of stewardship. Regenerative practices that are central to our operation include, no tillage, no synthetic fertility, use of cover crops for nutrient cycling and weed control, integration of livestock into cropping systems, planned grazing, and animal and plant diversity. As we are in the beginning phases, and working other jobs to make ends meet, we do not meet all of our own management objectives. We are a work in progress, but we are growing and learning everyday.

We have fallen in love with the Navajo Churro sheep breed for their many uses, hardiness to the elements, and rich cultural history. We also raise a few Rambouillet sheep, and cattle, and we keep a few goats to help manage weeds. Our current product lineup includes wool and wool artistry, lamb, beef, flour, and various crops sold on the commodity market. As we grow we hope to include into our operation a large laying flock, and pigs. On the cropping side we are looking to include, packaged dry-edible beans, packaged heirloom grains, perennial grain (Kernza®), - and much more; the sky is the limit. Keep a lookout for new products to pop up on our website as we grow: Guided Rock Farms Shop

The name of our farm embodies our mission to be Guided by the Light and build our farm on a solid foundation (Rock). We also desire, in the most humble way, to guide, by example, other farmers to amend their farming practices, to produce healthier food and a healthier environment for the community of which we are now a part. Hopefully this will prove to be fruitful to the generations to come after us. Thank you for your support, and thank you for following Guided Rock Farms' journey to make this little piece of land a better place to the life that surrounds it.

We are very excited to share our piece of Western Nebraska with you through big game hunts, turkey hunts, pheasant hunts, shed hunts, and birdwatching!

Property Visited

Guided Rock Farms is great habitat for pheasant, mule deer, whitetails, and Merriam's turkey. Elk frequently visit the property as Benton has found sheds on the property as well.

This property is well managed with a lot of cover and cropland. Flushed a lot of pheasant in the many shelter belts. Great experience overall as Benton was very personable and accommodating. I will be going back for sure!

Benton was a very gracious host. The Northwest parcel of land is very small and after three days of hunting, only one Muley Doe was seen on an adjacent property. Recommend utilizing trail cameras to determine what, if any, deer population are frequently spotted on the property prior to the 2024 rule season.

The new ranch owners of this property, Ben and Christy, are dedicated to a biodiversity that should, in the future, make for excellent pheasant habitat. Ron and I enjoyed talking with them and wish them the best of luck!

Instead of a romantic story of generations farming the same piece of land, we are a story of a seemingly impossible, very challenging start from scratch, of which we are very proud. Benton and I are both a generation removed from farming; we did have exposure to agriculture through our grandparents, and Benton worked on a few farms between geology jobs, and so are not completely clueless in our endeavor. We are, a first generation farm that took a big leap of faith to move to Nebraska to start our small operation. Thank you for supporting our journey with humble beginnings.
