Hayfox Ranch
The Hayfox Ranch is home to PRIME turkey hunting habitat right on the Musselshell River, which snakes through a portion of our acreage for about 7 miles! With just over 15,600 acres in total, this is a vast ranch with lots of open ground north of the highway and hayfields adjacent to riverbottom south of the highway.
Hunters will most likely have the best success on our property south of the highway, which consists of 7,000 acres. Turkey, grouse, pheasant, and waterfowl, all frequent these areas. The upland birds love the olive trees along the river and hay ground. If the turkeys aren't cooperating, you can hike further up into our ground in the timbered bluffs and foothills of the western Bull Mountains. Waterfowl can always be found on the river or feeding in our ag fields.
Our 8,600 acres north of the highway is wide open and surrounded by various parcels of BLM, State, and BMA lands. Upland hunters may have some luck working the grass if there's no action down by the river. Cover is much more limited north of the highway, so hunters should be aware of that.
About the Ranch
The original ranch stockright was established in 1882, making us the 3rd oldest ground ranched in the Musselshell area. We work the ranch with our sons, growing hay on the side as well. We love our piece of Montana, and we're excited to share it with you!

While on my visit with Brad and Tara, I saw many groups of pheasants along the river, hayfields, and grassy areas. We also flushed out some grouse. I also saw a large group of turkeys.

Brad was very responsive. It was a beautiful day and a fun time shooting prairie dogs.

Brad & Tara were great hosts. My boys and I had a great time and will be back to Hayfox ranch in the future.
Reviewed by Guest on March 2024 If you want to shoot at Prairie Dogs all day long this might be the place for you! They had what seemed to be several hundred acres of Prairie Dog Towns and we were able to help thin out the herd a bit, in fact we got a couple hundred or so. Brad and Tara were great hosts and did their best to get us going in the right direction, despite it being branding season. They were very busy when we were there and we just tried to stay out of the way, but they are very nice people and I would go back again!
Reviewed by Guest on June 2024What an amazing property and fantastic hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Hayfox and cannot wait to come back. The accommodations were first class and we were fortunate enough to be able to harvest a turkey. We saw plenty of turkey, pheasants and deer with lots of timber and prime river bottom for them to be comfortable. Tracks and sign everywhere you look. Thank you again Brad and Tara!

Beautiful piece of property. Whitetail, Muleys, turkeys, pheasants…..they have it all.
Reviewed by Guest on May 2024 My daughter and I went to Hayfox Ranch for a late winter shoulder season elk hunting opportunity. The weather was unseasonably mild (highs in the mid-60s), so the elk were deep in the timber throughout the day. Even so, by getting insight from Brad and hunting the timber around the ranch we still had solid opportunities to harvest cow elk. I believe cold weather would increase hunter opportunities nearer to the many hayfields on this property. My daughter and I have an overlanding-style truck camping setup and with Brad’s direction, found a great place to camp where we could watch the wild turkeys wander about and have a campfire and a beautiful view of the stars at night. Brad was a cordial and supportive host, fun to talk to, and happy to offer all he could to assist our hunt. I recommend a stay at Hayfox Ranch for a late season elk hunt for sure and hope to head back next year. Thumbs up!👍

Brad and Tara were very helpful providing information for our hunt. We were impressed with the habitat on the ranch and access to all areas of the ranch. We very much enjoyed our hunt on the ranch and would recommend the ranch without any reservations to other hunters. We intend to return to the ranch again for hunting in the future.
Reviewed by Guest on February 2024 Hayfox Ranch is a beautiful property! Plenty of acreage to make it difficult and accessible all at the same time. The lodging was excellent and beyond had all the conveniences of home. Brad was quick in responding and more than helpful in trying to put us on elk. The weather ended up being warmer than normal and the elk just weren’t moving during daytime hours, but there was plenty of fresh sign showing there were animals around. Definitely would give it another go if given the opportunity. Thanks again!
Reviewed by Guest on December 2023Fantastic upland bird property! Brad was spot on and extremely helpful pointing out where pheasants had been holding. Made the reservation the evening prior so didn’t know if it would be too late but they were very responsive and accommodating. Tara was also helpful with additional areas when I ran into her during the day. Will definitely book again.
