Homestead Ranch
The Homestead Ranch consists of 400 acres of mountain meadows and grasslands encompassed by the dense forest that this region of northwest Montana is famous for. Our acreage here in Lincoln County borders Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park and is surrounded by multiple public access areas, including Kootenai National Forest Lands as Type-1 BMA ranches.
This ranch property was originally homesteaded in 1909. In the 1970s and 80s this ranch had become a major cattle operation. We are the third family owners of what has become known as the Homestead Ranch. Day to day, work around the ranch typically consist of livestock care, forestry, and revitalizing many of the original homestead buildings that are still on the ranch. Our neighbor leases the grassland for his cows as well.
We have a heart for hosting disabled veterans looking to harvest a whitetail. We do not charge for non-hunters or sponsors. UTV access is permitted.
Apart from our disabled veteran hunts, we will also be offering access to the ranch for archery whitetail in the Fall. The ranch is situated right on the border of two hunt districts. About 80 of our acres are located in Unit 122, while our remaining acres are located in Unit 104. Whitetail bucks can be hunted with a general tag in both units. Between the open meadow and tree coverage, its a great area for critters, and hunters will most likely see them on our ranch trying to get away from other public area pressures.
Guests will have the option to stay in our cozy studio cabin, which originally was a meat house on the homestead that has been remodeled. The cabin can sleep two. Guests will also have the option to camp or RV overnight as well.
For folks staying overnight, we have to recommend you visit Happy's Inn for a meal or one of their many live concerts.

I saw all kinds of animal activity while traveling around the property. A few whitetails ran in front of us and traveled through the trees in different areas. Bryan did inform me that mule deer population has been down. Ground Squirrels were running all around and posted up sunning themselves on high ground. The views at the ranch are spectacular and the cabin is wonderful.
