Krogmeier Dairy
Krogmeier Dairy is a working dairy farmstead in southeast Iowa established in 1978. Our land is comprised of two split parcels totaling 400 acres. When it comes to this property, we are 1st generation, but dairy farming has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
This farm is home to a cheese plant. In 2019 we built the on-farm processing plant, Hinterland Dairy, to make our farmstead cheese and other dairy products, with only milk from our dairy herd. We also have an on-farm retail store (see website link below).
The whitetail deer population is very healthy on our property thanks to the diverse habitat of agriculture, ponds, woods, hills, and more. Turkeys can be seen roaming the land despite their numbers decreasing in the last few years. If you enjoy hunting squirrels in the trees, this is also the place for you. There are eight ponds on the farm. A 1.5-acre pond is available for fishing and holds black crappie, bluegill, bass, and more. Farm tours are something that we enjoy doing immensely and have been for some time. Please get in touch with us for further information.
In between our two parcels lies a county park with a lake, cabins, an RV park, showers, and a dump station. At this time, we only offer RV camping access on our land. In the future, there are plans to develop additional lodging.

Krogmeier Dairy is comprised of 400 rolling acres in South East Iowa. Of the 400 acres, approximately half is farmable ground, with the other half a balance of pasture and timber. On our farm we have 3 primary interest: agriculture, dairying and conservation. Our agriculturural practices include no till farming, cover crops, and incorporating our dairy livestock in the operation. Our dairy consists of 130 milk cows, primarily holstein and jersey plus young stock. We milk in a milking parlor twice a day, our cows are housed in a free stall barn and have access to pasture, weather permitting. We use a portion of our milk to make cheese and other dairy products at our processing plant, Hinterland Dairy, which we built in 2019, also located on our farm. Our conservation practices include enrolling a portion of our farm in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) as well as the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). These programs are designed to improve water quality, soil health and wildlife habitat. We enjoy seeing wildlife and encourage it's habitat. We have an abudance of white tail deer and other wildlife. Even though we are not hunters, we encourage the harvesting of white tail deer.
