McFarland White Ranch
The McFarland White Ranch is a 4th Generation, commercial cattle ranch that's been in operation since the early 1900s. The ranch stands on 30,000 acres of pristine country right in the shadow of the Crazy Mountains.
A picture of long-term sustainability and stewardship, the McFarland White Ranch has cultivated the land to provide the hay, barley, and grass needed to feed our cattle. The property itself consists of beautiful terrain, offering guests a nice mix of everything from open fields with river bottom to mountainous ridges and cloud-capped peaks. The ranch also boasts quite an intricate system of alpine roads, making for easy access to all parts of the property.
Guests are more than welcome to camp on the property. For guests seeking day-trips only or lodging elsewhere, we're only a 30-minute drive to Harlowtown and an hour drive from Big Timber and I-90.
No hunting on the property or using the property for hunting access to the Crazy Mountains is allowed

Landowner Rules: Leave gates the way that you found them, keep vehicles on designated roads, and do not park in tall grass. This is a working ranch so you may see ranch hands or owners while you are out and about. We will do our best to give you plenty of room, but there may be some interactions. There might be cattle where you are; they might approach you out of curiosity however they are mostly harmless...mostly. Cows are wild animals and we ask that you give the cattle space and leave them alone. Also, they might take the opportunity to use your vehicle as a scratching post, which we will not be held liable for if damages occur.

5.0Lanie was an excellent host. She toured the Ranch with us to pick an amazing spot to camp with our horses. The property has great riding options in the open grassland and the mountains. We had the good fortune to spot several Black Bears and Elk. We definitely will return!

Lanie is a great host! Fishing was good in spite of the wind! Beautiful snow capped crazy mountains in the background.

Great day on the property. Some nice fish were caught in spite of the wind. Such a treat to be able to enjoy the property. Wonderful people!
Reviewed by Guest on May 2024 McFarland White is an amazing property. It has incredible fishing opportunities, breathtaking views of the Crazies, tons of wildlife and forward-thinking landowners. Lanie & her father are on the cutting edge of grazing practices, they're an Audubon-certified ranch and have put a ton of effort into their wildlife management practices. I highly recommend making your way to visit this ranch!

Lanie and her family are great people! They are a proud Montana ranch family and great stewards of the land. I would suggest that visitors have On X land App so you know where you have permission to fish!! I fished a small spring creek that meanders through some pastures for Brown and Brook trout in the 8-13 inch range. This requires accurate casting. Big Elk is a freestone creek that was running a bit high. We caught Brown and Brook trout again. Will be better when hoppers are out!

My name is Lanie White and I am the fourth generation on the McFarland White Ranch. I grew up on the north east slope and creek bottoms of the Crazy Mountains. My family and I run a commercial cattle operation, an extensive farming operation as well as some other tertiary projects.
