Moonbeam Ranch
My great-grandparents, Michael and Mary, bought this ground north of Geyser in the late 1800s. My father managed the ranch here as well as the Strand Ranch nearby for close to 40 years. The 1918 Sears house, which will be available as a lodging option in the future, is also located on the ranch. This piece of Montana is rich in history and near and dear to my heart! I'm excited to share it with you!
Overall, this is a working cattle ranch that features 744 acres of rolling grasslands and fields. We share a property border with over 1,000 acres of Montana State Land as well. There's great views of both Square Butte (elevation 5732 ft.) and Round Butte (elevation 5331 ft.). In the distance, guests will be able to see the Little Belts to the south and the Judith Mountains to the southeast.
The Highwood Mountains, which are situated just to the north of us, represent Montana's Belt-Square Butte Hunting District, Unit 447. This is a general unit for either-sex whitetails and mule deer bucks. The muleys will typically be most prevalent here. This is also a general unit for cow elk, which could be a good option for hunters looking to fill the freezer especially during shoulder season. Unit 447 is a draw for Bulls. The Highwood Mountains also are good option for access to the Lewis and Clark National Forest.
Antelope hunters are also invited to the ranch, which is in Unit 471 for the lopes. The ranch also offers some prime upland bird habitat with sharpies, huns, and pheasant all present on the ranch. Small-game hunting will also be available for gophers, coyotes, and rattlesnakes.
***Please be cautious and aware of rattlesnakes during your visit.***
Lodging in the 1918 Sears House will not be available this year. We're very open to guests dry camping/RVing on the property. For guests staying off-site, we'd recommend looking for camp spots on nearby public campgrounds or making the ~1-hour drive from Great Falls.
