Redwing Ranch is located in Huerfano County, in Southern Colorado on the eastern flank of the Sangre de Christo Mountains. Our Lone Star parcel is located on the western edge of GMU 85, at ~7400' elevation, and comprised of ~350 acres of pasturelands and a mile of riparian habitat along the Huerfano River. This parcel should have excellent hunting opportunities for both mule deer and whitetail deer, turkey, waterfowl, and brown trout fishing in the river.

Guests stay overnight on the property in our 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom house, and they can also they can pull up their RV, providing a quiet place to stay and beautiful views.

About Redwing Ranch:

Redwing Ranch is a working cattle ranch that has started a new era focused on integrating adaptive grazing, ecological decision-making, and team collaboration for a successful and profitable ranch business. We believe the future of agriculture lies in the energy and potential of new practitioners willing to try new things, break paradigms and collaborate to build successful businesses. We want to help create that future by working with nature, embracing educational opportunities, and leading by example with our cattle grazing operations. To learn more about our work visit www.redwingranch.farm or follow us on Instagram @redwingranch

We look forward to hosting you!

*Please note that because Redwing Ranch is a working cattle ranch it is common for there to be ranch related activities on the Lone Star Parcel during your visit. We will do our best to keep in close communication with our guests letting them know our activities and whereabouts to minimize any impact on the hunting experience and quiet enjoyment of the trip, however, a reservation on the Lone Star does not guarantee a wilderness type experience. In general we run cattle on the property throughout the year and check the cattle at least once a day, which includes moving the cattle to new grass every couple days. We also have activity related to ditch irrigation of our pastures, this work involves setting tarps for flood irrigation of the pastures and generally occurs April through July. We also have neighbors who share the ditch with us that occasionally are on site to turn water up or down the ditch to their own properties. We are confident that your enjoyment of the property and our ranching operations can coexist (we do it ourselves when we hunt other parts of the ranch!), but we want to let our guests know the realities of staying at the beautiful and productive Lone Star Parcel on Redwing Ranch. Thanks for your interest and please let us know if you have any questions!

I'm the owner/operator of Redwing Ranch. As a wildlife ecologist, my career has focused on wildlife conservation and ecological land management, skills that I am now using to move Redwing Ranch from conventional to regenerative grazing practices. Prior to my move back to Colorado in 2022, I was the Deputy Director of the Santa Lucia Conservancy, in Carmel, California, where I led the wildlife research, prescribed-fire and community-fire-preparation programs. I also supervised the land management program which included the Conservancy’s novel conservation cattle grazing program that used cattle for habitat restoration. I received my BS in Biology from Stanford University, ‘02, chased feral pigs at Texas A&M University-Kingsville for my MS, ‘07, and delved into the molecular world of chronic wasting disease in elk at Colorado State University for my PhD, ‘13. Over my career I have advised and mentored over 40 students (undergraduate and graduate) advancing the careers of young conservation and land management scientists.
