Just minutes from Wichita and nestled just south of Derby, Rockford Farm offers a peaceful and accessible getaway for birdwatchers looking to explore the avian life of south-central Kansas. This long-held family farm blends open pasture, winter wheat fields, wooded corridors, and brushy edges, creating a variety of habitats that attract both resident and migratory species throughout the year.

Mature tree lines and native grasses provide excellent cover and nesting areas for songbirds, upland species, and raptors alike. In late summer and early fall, mourning doves gather heavily across the pasture areas, taking advantage of bare ground and nearby feeding zones. Northern bobwhite quail are also commonly spotted darting through thick grass cover, offering exciting glimpses of covey behavior, especially in the early mornings. The farm's winter wheat attracts large flocks of Canada geese during colder months, making for impressive viewing as they feed and move in coordinated waves across the landscape.
