Shire Gate Farms
Welcome to Shire Gate! We are excited to be offering our 500 acres here in the northwest corner of Missouri's Crawford County, less than an hour and a half from downtown St Louis. Nestled in the foothills of Owensville, Missouri; our farm is built on practicing the highest standard of humanely raised, antibiotic and hormone-free, natural grass-fed beef.
Initially, Shire Gate Farm began as a home for our beloved Shire Horses, Rocky and Simon, a.k.a the “Big Boys”, where they could roam freely. The land we acquired was large enough for additional livestock, so we decided to realize our dream of owning and operating a farm, and soon it became much more than that!
The acreage consists of rolling forest with a creekbottom and a few food plots. The property is well-suited for hunting, with ample ground to work with and solid wildlife populations.
We are located less than 20 minutes away from Interstate 44, which provides convenient access to and from St. Louis. Local lodging options can be found in Cuba about 18 miles away, while Owensville has a more rustic option only 12 miles away.

Having built my career playing a highly physical and competitive sport as a former NFL linebacker, I am especially aware of the health benefits of pasture-based, high-welfare farming. I want my kids, and all kids really, to grow up in a way that is more in touch with the natural environment. My cattle and laying hens are raised as nature intended, on grass, and aren't fed growth hormones, antibiotics or other unnatural additives. In pro-football, you can’t take over-the-counter cold medicines without letting a trainer know about it. Why would I want my kids eating beef from cattle-fed hormones or antibiotics?”
After intensive research, I chose a traditional breed of cattle called the British White Park to build his herd at Shire Gate. The White Park is a docile breed which thrives in a grass-fed environment and provides superior milk and meat. My research also led me to pasture-based farming; a passion reflected in my service as a board member for the respected nonprofit sustainable farming organization, A Greener World.I wanted Shire Gate Farm to be true to nature and true to the way things should be done. That means putting the welfare and care of the animals first. Following my success with cattle, I decided to incorporate laying hens into his farm as well. The birds are now an integral part of the farm ecosystem, foraging in the pastures and helping to control biting flies and other pests which can irritate the cattle or spread disease.
Our goal is to produce an experience for our consumers that would equal the experience our family enjoyed at the first harvest. I believe in the superior product that comes from achieving a state of harmony between the land and the animals.
Taste the Revolution. It's just the beginning.
