Capitol, Montana, United States
7,493 Acres
Nestled in the rugged beauty of Montana’s Sheep Mountains, this 7,493-acre family-run ranch offers a unique and immersive hunting experience. Located 40 miles southeast of Ekalaka in Carter County, the property is a mixture of natural grasslands, coulees, creek bottoms, and timbered hills provides excellent habitat, while creeks, ponds, and livestock tanks ensure a steady water supply. With a blend of open pastures and rugged terrain, this property offers diverse hunting conditions for those looking to test their skills in a classic Montana setting.
In an effort to maintain the caliber of game on the ranch, we will only be offering one hunt for both antelope and mule deer this Fall.
Hunting Unit 705. The land’s rolling grasslands and open basins make for excellent spot-and-stalk opportunities for antelope, which are commonly seen grazing throughout the ranch. Mule deer utilize the coulees and creek bottoms for bedding, offering a mix of long-range glassing and close-quarters hunting depending on the terrain. Turkey hunters will find flocks moving through the timbered areas and creek bottoms, providing a rewarding challenge in the spring and fall seasons.
In addition to hunting, the ranch is a destination for those looking to experience Montana’s wild beauty. Guests are welcome to bring their horses to explore the landscape, hike through rolling hills, or simply enjoy a rustic getaway under Montana’s vast skies. Bird watchers will appreciate the diverse avian species that frequent the area, adding another layer of outdoor enjoyment.
Accommodations on-site cater to a variety of preferences. For those looking for a truly off-grid experience, a 20x16 rustic cabin with a loft offers a secluded retreat, accommodating up to four guests. The cabin has no power, providing an unplugged escape with an outhouse for facilities. For larger groups or those seeking more comfort, a three-bedroom ranch house is available, featuring a full kitchen, two bathrooms, and space for up to six guests. Whether you're here for the hunt or the experience, this Montana ranch offers an authentic connection to the land and the wildlife that call it home.
