The Alamo
Utica, New York, United States
52 Acres
Welcome to The Alamo, a 52-acre slice of upstate New York located just outside Utica in Herkimer County. Our family's been farming nearby for years, mostly hay and corn, with a few seasonal side ventures like pumpkins and a front-field orchard. But this parcel, mostly woods with a creek running through it, has sat untouched for a long time!
About 5 acres up front are planted in alfalfa, apples, and Christmas trees, and then it rolls straight into roughly 47 acres of mature hardwoods. The terrain is steep in the back and flattens out around the creek bottom, creating natural cover and movement corridors for wildlife. We've got a solid population of whitetail: plenty of does in the orchard and the more cautious bucks hanging back along the ridge. Turkeys are active in the mornings, and there's no shortage of small game like grouse, rabbits, and the occasional raccoon or coyote.
Access is straightforward via a dirt road that gets you 200–300 yards into the property. You’ll need to hoof it a little beyond that, but it’s manageable.
We've seen interest in foraging, shed hunting, and even fishing in the creek. It's a low-pressure property that hasn’t been hunted in years, so you’re getting first crack at a quiet patch of woods with real potential.
Tent or truck/car camping is great for any hunters that would like to stay overnight. Rooftop tents or toppers work great too. We have an outhouse, but no power or water available. If you don't want to stay on-property, we do have a KOA 15 minutes away, Herkimer Diamond KOA, or nearby hotels in Herkimer as well.
