About the Ranch:

The ranch began in 1914 when Henry P. and Clara Martens homesteaded on convergence of Beaver Creek and Soda Creek 5 miles south of present-day Upton, WY. Through the early years of the homesteading, many families came and went trying to make their fortune as ranchers or farmers. However, for most, it was a failed attempt and as families vacated and sold their homesteads, the Martens were able to acquire more land. In 1948, sons H. Lee and Jack leased the place from their father and bought cattle from him. Over time, H. Lee (wife Thelma Slagle) would purchase the entirety of the ranch from brother Jack and continue to operate the ranch. Around 1980, son James E. Martens and wife Kathy purchased the ranch from H. Lee and are the current owners of a majority of the ranch. Daughter Judy (Martens) and husband Don Bartels own the property known as the Cordingly Place.

Currently, the ranch is leased and operated by my family.
