Nearest Town, Lagrange, Indiana
245 acres

We're a pastured pork, sheep, and poultry farm located in rural Lagrange county Indiana, just one half mile south of the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area. We operate in a low input, focusing on maximizing our forage production through the use of high stock density grazing, diverse, energy dense pastures, and long recovery times. We do not use any herbicides, pesticides, etc and use our livestock to manage our land as much as possible in liue of tillage, mowing, and heavy equipment.

The land is broke in three separate properties, each separated by about a half mile of road. The properies are each divided with 48" woven wire fence which contains our livestock, but allows wildlife to pass over or through. These fence rows have become an uncommon site in our area as crop fields become larger and larger, but they act as protection for bedding areas of fawns, nesting areas of birds, and burrows of small mammals. The majority of the farm can be easily accessed via farm lanes by vehicles with reasonable ground clearance and 4wd in the event of rain or snow.

The Home Farm is a rolling 85 acres divided into 30 permanently fenced pens of cool season pastures rich in alfalfa and clover, heavily grazed woods comprised largely of oak and hickory trees, and a small amount of sorghum sudan grass. The property is dense with mulberry trees and acts as our main test ground for different seedings and pasture additions.

The Hayward/Farrowing farm is comprised of about 65 acres of converted crop ground and 30 acres of woods. The open ground is fenced into 9 pens used for pasture and hay and has a near centrally located watering hole that holds water in all but the dryest of times. It is dense with alfalfa, fairly flat, and the acreage is spread in a long strip only about 200 yards wide. The wooded ground is some of the hilliest in the area. It is rich with walnut trees and is our most recently purchased property; as a result, there are still remaining thorns, brush, and raspberry patches is some areas.

The Bolen farm is about 65 acres of woods, wetland, and crop ground. The crop ground is about 100 yards across and surrounded by woods. We plant corn here each year, and then graze pigs through it over winter; as such, we have standing corn longer than any other farm in the area. The property is bordered to the west by Turkey Creek, which flows into the Pigeon river and the Pigeon River FWA. This river bank is a frequent corridor for wildlife moving south out of the FWA.
