Higgins Ranch
The Higgins Ranch is a family-owned operation located in the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills. With roughly 13,000 acres, this multi-generational ranch is a treasure, featuring vast grasslands with shelterbelts scattered throughout, along with a couple small ponds and waterways. The ranch also has sections of low-lying meadows that turn into seasonal wetlands, attracting all forms of wildlife.
The Goose Creek also runs through the western portion of the property.
We are excited to be offering authentic ranching experiences, birding opportunities, and hunting adventures. For ranch experiences and birding, we are happy to provide one meal for each group. For hunting, our ranch is a great place for youth or novice hunters. At this point we are allowing white tail deer hunting but not Mule deer, as we are attempting to build our population.
Camping is permitted on the property, and we'd be happy to see if we can accommodate your RV; although, we aren't able to offer any hookups at this time. Local lodging options, as well as restaurants and grocery stores, can all be found in Valentine (44 miles) or Thedford (30 miles).
We look forward to your visit to the Higgins Ranch! Please inquire with any questions!

Chris and PattyJo have deer on the property... while they aren't trophy whitetails or muley deer... it is a perfect property for hunters just beginning their outdoor journey. They are a super friendly family with lots to offer on their ranch.

This was my first trip to the Sandhills, but it won't be my last. The Higgins Ranch is beautiful! Chris did a great job of showing me around. The birds were plentiful and they cooperated well. It was an incredibly peaceful day. I look forward to getting back to the Higgins Ranch with my boys when they are a little older.

We had an absolute blast Chris and PattyJo were amazing host. Chris was a big help in showing us where he had been seeing birds. We seen no shortage of prairie chickens and sharptail will definitely be back for future trips.

PJ & Chris were excellent hosts and you should make time to meet and talk with them while you're there. This was my second year and it was even better than before. Birds are there and abundant. Here's some of what you might expect - https://youtu.be/z4hrTly0-jI?si=K59-c0UjjKs6_gDD

My 15 year old had two doe whitetail tags for the late Jan 1/15 season, the terrain was exactly as it was advertised, my son an I seen deer every day, all 3 days he hunted, Chris was very helpful showing us around bright an early the first morning, he took time out to answer any questions we needed and left us to do our thing. My son had fun, we seen lots of coyotes an deer, just didn’t make that connection, would definitely be interested in a bird harvest, lots of pheasants lol!

This hunt was everything we’d hoped for. We harvested our very first prairie chickens. The landowners were incredibly helpful and gracious. A wonderful experience. Thank you Chris and PattyJo!

A wonderful property which has healthy populations of both sharptail grouse and praire chickens. The good poulation of praire chickens makes this property particularly unique. Praire chickens hold for pointing dogs much better than sharptail grouse. Thus, a prime property for praire grouse hunters with pointing dogs. Bagged my first praire chicken over a perfect point from my young French Brittany on this ranch. I will always cherish the memories and appreciate the hospitality of the Higgin's Ranch and family.

Chris & PJ were delightful hosts. Their property is a bird hunters delight but you'll need to put in the work. I'm looking forward to a late season hunt as well.

PJ, Chris and Casey were all incredibly welcoming. The hunt was exactly what me and my 11 year old son were looking for. Their ranch is beautiful and provided the perfect terrain for a spot and stalk whitetail hunt. My son was able to harvest his first deer and we captured memories that will last a lifetime! A big thank you to the Higgins Ranch for their hospitality and a great time. We look forward to coming back in future years.

Classic Sandhills. Rolling Sharp Tail Grouse hills above and Greater Prairie Grouse meadows below. The birds are here even in an extreme drought year. PattyJo, Chris, family and hands are dedicated to hunters success and comfort. The only downside is the washboard road coming into their ranch. We would hunt again at Higgins Ranch in the future—another good addition to LandTrust!

A very different whitetail hunt!!! Was exactly as it was advertised, did not see any monster deer, but did see deer every time we went out. Landowners were very friendly, and even offered to cook us dinner!!! Despite being busy with their ranching duties, landowners would take the time to answer questions when needed, and left us to do our thing. Very interesting/challenging terrain to hunt. Will be back!!!
