Bio

A native of Vermilion Parish, Leigh Godchaux is the Farm Manager of Live Oak Farm, a property that has been in her family for more than 100 years. She serves as the family representative and liaison for the property, owned by Godchaux Farm, and follows in the footsteps of her mother, who began managing Live Oak in 1980 and remains closely involved today as an owner.

Leigh has been actively and hands-on involved at Live Oak for more than 15 years. She co-founded P&G Acres with a family member to take over the farm’s rice production and has worked directly in its cattle and alligator operations. Today, as both a part owner and Farm Manager, she works alongside her mother in the management of the property, with responsibilities spanning agricultural production, pasture and habitat management, conservation practices, alligator management, and waterfowl and wildlife habitat.

For Leigh, Live Oak is much more than a working farm. Its combination of agriculture, wetlands, wildlife, and generations of family stewardship makes it an extraordinary example of how a working landscape can also provide and protect valuable habitat. She believes strongly in responsible land and wildlife management and in preserving what makes Live Oak unique for future generations. Opening a limited part of the property to others is an opportunity to share that experience with people who have the same appreciation for wildlife, conservation, and responsible hunting.

Outside of Live Oak, Leigh is a limited partner and managing employee of Abbeville Family Partnership, coaches girls’ soccer, and, along with her family, is a longtime supporter of the Boys & Girls Club in Abbeville. She attended Vanderbilt University, where she played collegiate soccer, before returning to Louisiana and earning her bachelor’s degree in public relations and marketing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
