About the Mahlstedt Ranch
The Mahlstedt Ranch is located at the foot of the Divide between the Missouri & Yellowstone drainages on the west side. Homesteaded in 1912, our family cattle and Quarter Horse operation features brush and creek bottoms and moderate badlands. We farm to raise feed for our livestock so birds and wildlife also benefit from the grains.
Our property is a great location for outdoor recreation opportunities and farm and ranch experiences. We are always open to new ideas for ways that people can enjoy our property. If you don't see your desired activity, please click the "Contact Tana" button, and we'd be happy to see if we can accommodate you.
Tana will direct guests who book any of our farm & ranch/outdoor rec packages to a specific area of the ranch. These packages are not available during the hunting season.
If you're interested in hunting here at Mahlstedt Ranch, you can book exclusive hunting access and lodging at our Big Game on the Divide listing OR you can book lodging at Hannah's House for our portion of the ranch, which is enrolled in Montana's Block Management Program.

Our Stay at Jord's house was the trip of a lifetime. I and my two boys brought our horses and stayed at them Mahlstedt ranch for four days. We trail-rode the beautiful badlands that lie just out the backdoor of Jord's house, watched the horse herd run through the hills and the cattle come to water just yards from the back porch every evening, and our horses stayed in a nice, large corral with water and shade right next to us. On the last day, we helped Tana and her family move cattle across the ranch and then had a wonderful home-cooked meal with a family even more special than the land they cherish: the Mahlstedts. There is truly nothing else like what the Mahlstedts have to offer! Bring your own horse, stay in a roomy, air conditioned, well-furnished cabin, and have room for the whole family! The riding here is a true treat, and can be as challenging or as easy as you would like; but each step is always more breathtaking than the last. The corral is large and secure, and there is a water hydrant for easy watering. You can ride for miles, North, East, South, or West, right from the house! Just saddle up, and the ranch seems never-ending. One could ride here for a lifetime and take a new path every day. Jord's House is large enough to sleep many people comfortably, and we all had our own room! The house is extremely well-kept, and it has everything you could possibly need(including a decent cell-signal)! Blankets, linens, cleaning supplies, and maybe even the seasoning you forgot to pickup at the store, are all waiting for you at this well-stocked yet secluded home. Tana really takes care of this place, and it shows. We feel so fortunate and blessed to have had a glimpse into the life of a real working Montana ranch family, and even more so to know the wonderful people that make it up. Tana and her family were friendly, informative, and hospitable; they are truly first-class. We hope this will not be our last time visiting these wonderful people in what is truly "God's Country."
