McKamey West Ranch
McKamey West Ranch is a family-operated ranch located in the heart of Montana. What started as the Colby Sheep company in the late 1800s has since been passed down to generations of McKameys. You will witness the pride in land stewardship from generation to generation as you walk the abundant grasslands or fish the native stream. Wildlife abounds as great care has been taken to keep the habitat healthy and thriving.
New to McKamey West is "From Our Pasture to Your Plate". We now offer all-natural, grass-fed beef and lamb to our customers, family, and friends. There is no shortage of meat and our animals are raised on good feed and prepared for our customers' satisfaction. You can buy them by the whole, half, or quarter.

This property would be excellent for both big game and upland bird hunters. I heard stories of successful hunts throughout the year, plus also saw several groups of antelope and deer, while we toured the property. The grasslands are well known for their populations of sharpies and huns. Per my conversations with Merrill, it sounds like the pheasant population isn't as strong as its been in years past.

Great host. Lots of huns and grouse throughout the property. I had many opportunities to get my young bird dog some valuable experience. Really enjoyed my time there. Looking forward to hunting there again.
Reviewed by Guest on September 2024 Beautiful property. Lots of whitetails doe around. Enjoyed my time out there with great views. Was unable to tag a buck early in the season, but planning to hunt again there next year.
Reviewed by Guest on November 2024Merrill & Jeane were fantastic hosts! The property is beautiful with Hound Creek running through it. My family & I camped along Hound Creek which was a great place for the kids to play in the water and fish. We also went and fished on the private pond and had some of the best trout fishing anyone in the group had ever experienced. HUGE rainbows were caught by everyone. They fought super hard and jumped quite a bit. A quick warning for folks that we did kill a rattlesnake in camp and, just like most areas in Montana during the summer, you should be aware that they are around. Thanks, Merrill & Jeane! I've already recommended your property to a few other folks.
Reviewed by Guest on August 2024Great time as always. Look forward to some fall fishing when the weather cools.

Awesome hunt with tons of whitetail and mule deer on the property. Access is wonderful and Merrill was a wonderful to work with during our stay. He informed us of locations were animals were located and gave us hints on where he had recently seen larger bucks. 2 of my kids were able to harvest their first deer. Looking forward to coming back again. Highly recommend.
Reviewed by Guest on November 2024 From start to finish this hunt was made extremely effortless thanks to Merrill and his wife. The section of ranch I hunted was everything I hoped it would be and then some. Healthy abundance of wildlife, eagles, deer, turkeys, antelope. I saw it all. I was fortunate enough to harvest a beautiful mature Tom within a few hours of arriving. I’ll definitely be back.
Reviewed by Guest on May 2024Though the creek was running high and off color due to a recent rain storm, I was able to land some nice browns on a streamer. I look forward to getting back once the water flows settle down. Having this wonderful resource near my cabin is awesome!!

Beautiful piece of property with flat grasslands and a lower creek bottom..open areas had a dozen or so antelope with a couple of bucks...whitetails in the creek bottoms and sloped sides...hunted huns and sharpies and we managed a limit + of sharpies and a few huns even though we got rained out a full day...saw a couple of muley bucks on the west corner...Merrill was a great host and even allowed us to run our dogs the afternoon before our hunt

This was a great place to hunt. There is plenty of game and a lot of land togive you a private hunt. Merrill and his wife are kind, welcoming hosts. See you next year.
Reviewed by Guest on October 2024 I had great day on Merrill's ranch. Peggy, my GSP, found 7 coveys of birds and several singles. The scenery is worth the admission! Merrill was a great host and it is obvious they work very hard to maintain the beauty of their ranch.

This is a fifth generation cattle and sheep operation managed with care for the land and wildlife. Jeanne and Merrill took time out of ranch work to show us the best places on this large ranch to find Huns and Sharptail. We saw no pheasants or prairie chickens but had no expectations of their presence. As always with Huns and Sharptail there is plenty of walking and a big running pointing dog that will hold a covey hundred yards out is a big advantage. The grass is high and dense this year and the sharptail were holding tight. We had some really good hunts. Tried to think of a down side or suggestion for the owners but could not come up with even one! We will be back!
