Meridian Farmstead
At Meridian Farmstead there is inspiration in every direction and significant elevation changes. At sunrise, the eastern tree-covered slopes rise sharply and contrast with the rays of morning light cascading down from the peaks. With daylight, your eyes will be drawn southward where you can see for almost 30 miles -- layer upon layer of forest has every shade of color the Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer. The mountain summits skirt the back pasture and seem close enough to touch. In truth, the property has private access to thousands of wooded acres in the George Washington National Forest, should you be so inclined to venture there. As you look West across the Shenandoah Valley you will see the prominent outline of House Mountain, church steeples, and idyllic farms in the distance with cattle dotting green pastures.
The town of Buena Vista is not far away. On clear nights you can hear the cheers of football fans and see the light begin to twinkle as sunset arrives. Golden hour is prolonged at Meridian Farmstead, as the misty mountains you saw at sunrise are now bathed in the light of the sunset and the valley becomes ablaze with color. You get to take it all in. As you look North, away from the lights, toward the deep darkness of the forests the stars can be seen in bands across the heavens. Sitting next to the water at our 6-acre fishing pond you may look up at the night sky and see only the moonbeams to illuminate your path back to your friends and loved ones.
Deer and turkey can often be seen on our farm. I came upon a nest of a dozen turkey eggs tucked next to a tree along one of our hiking paths. We have a mountain stream that forms the border on the national forest where black bears prowl and coyotes make their presence known by raising their sharp voices in early spring. Black ravens perch in our trees as do bald eagles -- waiting for another chance to swoop down to catch a fish on the water.
A 13 and 16-foot canvas tent is available, inquire for more information. RV camping access is available as well.
The lower level of our on-property house is open to LandTrust guests and has a private entrance, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry, private parking, refrigerator, and kitchenette. The Meridian House has three levels and is a new, monitor barn-style construction featuring a wrap-around porch with mountain and valley views. The white oak timber frame accents and southern exposure make for an elevated feel. At 300 feet above the surrounding countryside, the breezes are refreshing.

I began hunting with may father back when I had to take three steps to every one of his and at times he had to lift me onto his shoulders to carry me to the truck. He's a an old man now, 81 years, a marine and Vietnam Veteran. He tought me how to consider the wind, how to track a wounded deer and the proper way to field dress it. I love the beauty of nature and the balance I see eveywhere. I thank God for a world liek the one we have. I'm happy to share my little piece of it with poeple who feel the same. I have a lovely wife and six children.
