This package allows for cow elk hunting access on our 80 acres in Unit 6 to FILL THE FREEZER.
In addition to our privately-owned acreage with over half a mile of Niobrara riverbottom, hunters can take advantage our neighboring access to the Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest lands with additional river front.&nbsp;
Despite the smaller size of the property, we still have all the terrain to make for a good hunt. Flat country in the high ground with timbered canyons and draws as you get down into the riverbottom.
4WD or high-clearance vehicles are required to ensure access to the property. 
All hunts include free fishing in the Niobrara.

Unit 6 Cow Elk Hunt

One of the largest concentrations of elk winter on this property. Late fall after the crops are taken out, the elk migrate to the hay meadows and canyons of NV Land &amp; Cattle. Seen (not hunted) on the northern end of the property this year was a 7x7 that scored at least 385.&nbsp;
The NV Land &amp; Cattle Niobrara River Ranch offers all the types of terrain you can find in Nebraska in an uber-private area/setting. Meandering spring-fed creeks run through the canyons, the Niobrara River borders over a 1/4 mile of the property, hay meadows that are planted w/ alfalfa every other year and managed food plots strategically placed in coves, and deep drop-off canyons border the meadows on 3 sides. Big resident whitetail and Elk make their way up from the canyons to the meadows.&nbsp;
The lodge is superbly situated on a plateau overlooking the Niobrara River. The very comfortable log structure with three ensuite rooms (each uniquely decorated in keeping with local art and wildlife) a huge open-plan dining area and two superb livingrooms w/ fireplaces. Food will be provided by a certified chef sourcing food from the local area, including wild game, the ranches own beef and locally grown fruits and vegetables.&nbsp;
15 minutes East of Valentine, NE. Guests can drive directly to ranch or be picked up at Omaha airport.&nbsp;

Note on success rates for cows: After opening weekend, chances of harvesting decrease with each passing week. The way the weather works in this part of the state, when things get dry, the elk move to where the green is down by the river. I will do my best to put you on elk; however, the further into season you get, the tougher the hunt.&nbsp;
This in essence is an elk mitigation hunt. We have large herds of elk that hang out on our cropland, providing sportsmen with a high chance of getting a shot off and the ability to fill the freezer with one out of our many crop-fed elk.
As the season gets closer, feel free to reach out with any questions you have about the herd size and movements. I'm around the ranch every day, so I have a good feel for where they're hanging out. Happy to provide recommendations for which of our listings to book; however, come Fall there's really not a bad choice!
We won't be accepting bookings until after Nebraska elk draw results come out, which is historically right around the first week of July.
A max of 10 days (not consecutive) can be booked per sportsman per season, for a max of $250 (plus LT booking fee). All days thereafter are free. Just coordinate with us when you want to come out and we will block out your days for you.
Lodging is available in Valentine about +/- 30 minutes away from our ranch.

This smaller unit is positioned in the north-central part of the state, bordering South Dakota. While there is a good amount of public land available, the best elk habitats and hunting spots are primarily on private property. A small yet robust herd of elk resides in this area, with almost all encounters and harvests occurring on private lands. To improve chances of success, it is advisable to secure private access or work with an outfitter. Most elk taken from this unit are typically found in two main areas: one is located just west of Valentine, between the Niobrara River and the town of Nenzei, while the other is situated on the far eastern side, also between the Niobrara River and Sparks.
