Lovejoy Ranch is a sixth-generation working cattle ranch owned and operated by Bob and Jody Dexter. We are nestled in the north-central region of the unique grass-covered dunes of the Sandhills, just a short 20-minute drive to Valentine, Nebraska.
Cattle grazing through proper grass management provides wildlife with perfect habitat. The Evergreen Creek flows East through the land, providing water to various ponds, creating a natural environment for wildlife. In the early mornings, you can count on hearing the rooster pheasants chatter and take off in flight as ranch chores begin, while moving cattle through their pasture rotations, you are sure to have a flock of prairie chickens and sharptail grouse take flight under your horse’s belly. El Lake, the beginning of the Evergreen Creek, is a small lake stocked with an abundance of bass, northern pike, and bluegill.
The Ranch has RV and tent camping available, but hotel lodging is available in a short drive. Valentine is a small town at the junction of two major US Highways, 20 and 83. You can find just about anything you need here— there are two gun stores, a bait shop, a grocery store, etc.
Although we don't have a minimum for days booked in a trip, we highly recommend booking multiple days to take full advantage of what our ranch can offer! Our family has had great success hunting the ranch and we look forward to sharing this with other sportsmen!

Nebraska Sandhills Upland Bird Hunt: Pheasant & Prairie Chickens

We allow tents and small campers in designated areas along with a calving shed (running water) that sportsmen can clean game in. Upland bird packages are for up to 8 sportsmen.&nbsp;

Located in the Sandhills region of Nebraska, Plum Thicket Farms is a family-owned cattle ranch operated by Rex and Nancy and their son Patrick and his lady, Jessica. "We have a passion for raising excellent beef cattle and strive to continue to improve the range and soil, which are our livelihood." This goal led Plum Thicket Farms to receive the 2016 Aldo Leopold Award for Conservation as well as being named the 2016 Commercial Beef Breeder of the year by the Beef Improvement Federation.&nbsp;
Rex and Nancy bought Plum Thicket Farms in 1998, after moving from the Colorado mountains where Nancy had practiced cow/calf veterinary medicine. The farm has since remained in the family as their son, Patrick, is currently running all farm operations. Rex and Nancy built the herd to 300 cows by implementing from the outset a detailed individual cow record system. Nancy utilizes this data to make bull selections and culling decisions. She has steadily improved the genetic quality of their herd over the years.

Our 1,875-acre property is a sprawling piece of ground with a mixture of farming land and grassland. We also have quite a bit of CRP ground available.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The town of Ord is less than 10 miles away, which features local lodging options as well.

Pheasant and/or Grouse Hunt in NE CRP & Grasslands - West Zone

Hunt for grouse and other upland birds on over 6,000 acres of rolling hills.
Nothing but rolling green grasslands and wide open spaces, perfect for wildlife to soar through the air and scurry across the land. This 6,600 acre cattle ranch is located just five miles from the town of Thedford in central Nebraska. The ranch was bought in 2006 and has been a working cow/calving operation ever since.
The ranch has no farming, haylands, ponds or timber, just majestic rolling grasslands as far as you can see. The Middle Loup River is within eye-sight of the ranch and the Halsey National Forest is located just on the other side. This terrain provides the quintessential land for grouse, prairie chickens and doves to frolic about. There are occasional antelope found on the property, otherwise the small game can be found scattered throughout.
Friends and family have hunted the land in the past and have always had a great time. We are able to accommodate camping if you’d like to stay on the property. Also, Thedford has two Motels and nearby Halsey has one Motel.
We can assist with a place to clean and store animals depending on the length of your trip. There is no minimum or maximum number of days for booking. We are excited to welcome you on the property and hope you have a great trip!
