The Abbott Ranch
“Like the Sahara desert, but covered top to bottom in lush green grass.”
With over 30,000 acres of rolling, natural grass in the heart of the Sandhills in Nebraska, the Abbott Ranch is happy to welcome you to an impeccable habitat for waterfowl hunting! Originally homesteaded in the late 1800’s, this sixth generation working cattle ranch has provided an abundance of wildlife for over a century. In addition to the grasslands, our ranch consists of shelter belts, ponds, marshes and wet-land areas. We have 30 miles of spring-fed, open-water tributaries of natural rivers, creeks and man-made ditches, including an 11 mile stretch along the Snake River.
The ranch is comprised of two locations; Largest being the main ranch location and the smaller ‘tailbone,' ranch located 20 miles away. A variety of waterfowl can frequently be found throughout the entire ranch.
With such a remote and ample amount of land, we strongly recommend booking at least 2-3 days. However, we have no minimum for days booked. Prices are per gun per day. The nearest town is one hour away and the drive includes 35 miles of highway plus 9 miles of minimum maintenance gravel road (cars will get muddy if wet). It would be hard to fully appreciate the vast opportunities the land can provide in just one day!
Our lodging entails an old, ranch-style bunk house that has been well maintained. The bunk house has beds for nine people, plus a couch for a tenth. It includes plenty of chairs, a TV, fridge, microwave and full bathroom. In addition, the ranch barn hayloft is just 40 yards away and offers a great entertainment area with a bar, pool table, shuffleboard, TV, fridge, microwave, grill and wood stove. Wifi is available in the bunkhouse, although cell service is spotty throughout the property.
We are also happy to open our turkey shack. This shack is closer to where the turkeys are located, it's a great option if people aren’t wanting to drive as far in the morning.
We are happy to provide an inclusive, full-course, evening meal for the entire party. We will cook up steaks, BBQ, hamburgers, or fresh game! However, breakfast and lunch will be on your own.
The Abbott Ranch is looking forward to meeting you and supporting your next booked trip!

The Abbott Ranch is a huge chunk of property that you probably need multiple days to cover all of it. When placing the game camera I saw multiple Merriams turkeys and muley deer. Chris mentioned there are some trout that frequent the snake river that runs through the northern portion of his property. He also says he and his family also frequently find a number of Native American artifacts on the property.

5.0Carver’s communication was both honest, friendly and timely. As he stated during our first conversation, the turkeys were a challenge to find and hunt, but we were able to tag out with 2 mature Toms. The terrain is highly conducive to spot and stalk in addition to good cover for set up along the river where we found birds. His suggestion of bringing the dirt bikes was greatly appreciated and allowed us to cover far more ground than in foot alone. Property has abundant waterfowl and would be a great selection.

It's very rare for me to discover and add new species to my life list within North America, but it was easy on the Abbott Ranch. We birded there for an entire day and found 55 species, including Blue Grosbeak, Orchard Oriole, Blue winged teal, and the largest population of grasshopper sparrows I have ever seen. The landscapes were beautiful with well constructed paths and roads for driving 4-wheel drive. Everyone was very nice and offered a lot of help on locating species and areas of interest. Definitely will be returning in the spring to find some amazing species. Great place to enjoy birding in nature with privacy and no disturbances.
