Merriam’s turkeys are a standout here. Birds roost in timbered drainages and creek lines, using the cover of cottonwoods and brushy draws before drifting out into open areas at first light. Whether you're calling from a shadowed edge or intercepting midday movement, this is classic prairie turkey country with room to roam and work birds.
Our habitat is rolling grassland, scattered draws, and native breaks paired with rich ag ground and various water sources (livestock tanks, ranch reservoirs, and creeks), providing excellent habitat for the wildlife here!
Note: This is a working cattle ranch practicing rotational grazing. Access coordination and hunter awareness of livestock zones are required. No lodging is provided, though RV camping may be available on request.
About the Ranch:
Just 20 minutes from Rapid City, Dry Creek Farm &amp; Ranch offers sportsmen access to 1,550+ acres of regenerative ranchland on the edge of South Dakota’s Buffalo Gap National Grassland. We are a first-generation family operation with a focus on regenerative practices and traditional values. In the fall of 2015, we began our shift from a traditionally-managed ranching operation to a holistically-managed operation: replacing tilled farming methods with no-till methods, incorporating managed intensive grazing practices, shifting from corn finished to grass finished and focusing on improving the soil with the implementation of cover crops.
We are now an Audubon-Certified Bird Friendly Ranch, and have loved seeing how the ranch has benefited from these changes over the years. Another by-product of our practices is the great hunting opportunities here at the ranch!&nbsp;
We're looking forward to having hunters out to the ranch this season!

Come and hunt for turkey at Little Owl River! The property is home to native prairie, farmland, rolling hills, deep draws, and 5 miles worth of a rare perennial stream that free flows year-round. All of this makes for an excellent wildlife habitat.&nbsp;
Cabin and RV/tent access are available in addition to the packages. If you decide to stay elsewhere, the towns Timber Lake and Isabel are a short drive away and provide needed amenities.&nbsp;

Turkeys are a nuisance for us and neighboring farmers. Our cams will consistently catch flocks in the hundreds!&nbsp;
We can provide a caller if that interests you and your group for an additional fee. The successful harvest pictures were from sportsmen who worked with the caller to get their bird within 5 yards!!!
We are located in Zone 60A for turkeys, which is part of the Prairie Spring Turkey Unit. 
2025 Season Dates: April 12 - May 31 
Hunters must apply for the Prairie Turkey tag, which becomes available in January.

Hunters can pursue wild turkeys across the legendary prairies of our ranch’s acres. With varying terrain such as fields, creeks and rolling hills, all surrounded by our rich crop grounds, our ranch is sure to make your turkey hunt a success.
Please inquire if interested in using the lodge. It's only worth our time to open the lodge in the Spring for a large group, so please inquire and we can see if we can accommodate you. Otherwise, the town of Winner provides decent options for hotels and airbnbs!
