Turkey hunters are invited to the acreage to call in South Dakota Merriam's. Access to our 40 acres and thousands of acres of national forest lands will be exclusively available.
The property features dense tree cover and has multiple draws which can hold birds.
The cabin is available as an add-on to our hunting packages for multi-day bookings and can comfortably fit about two or three guests.
Our 40 acres share a boundary with the Black Hills National Forest here in South Dakota. The property is very secluded and features a great little cabin set in the dense timber the Black Hills are known for. In addition to the timber, the property consists of varying elevations with a few draws, not to mention our multiple access points into the National Forest, which has thousands of additional access.
We are situated about 35 minutes south of Custer and just under an hour and a half from Rapid City.

Black Hills Hideaway

Unit BH1 Spring Turkey Hunt w/ Black Hills Nat'l Forest Access

Turkey hunters are invited to the property to take advantage of our access to 65+ private acres plus thousands of acres of national forest lands.
Our 67 acres are located on a very remote and secluded parcel, which is completely surrounded by South Dakota's Black Hills National Forest. We are about a 30-minute drive from highway access and about 45 minutes from Newcastle, WY. Roads to the property are windy and can be pretty rough, especially if wet or snowy. Side by sides are recommended! Service is very limited, so please be prepared by downloading directions and property maps (provided upon booking) prior to your visit.
This portion of the Black Hills is a great spot for whitetail and turkey hunting. Camping is permitted; however, big rig RV or trailer access is not possible here.

Black Hills Elk Ridge

BH1 Spring Turkey Hunt | Secluded Mountain Merriams

Hunt South Dakota Merriams on our 75 acres!
We call this tract The East End. It's a conveniently accessible, low-effort harvest opportunity where historically hunters have called us asking to hunt birds they can see from the county road. This is a great opportunity for hunters looking to check a South Dakota Merriam off their list!
The top of the limestone cap is rocky with shorter vegetation, opening into pockets that turkeys use for strutting and display. Finger draws cut through the property, lined with ponderosa pine and thick stands of sumac bushes that provide shade, travel corridors, and concealment. We have an ephemeral spring in the draw directly below the area we want to provide access to, and we also have water tanks dispersed for cattle.
This is a straightforward, do-it-yourself style property in South Dakota's BH1 District.
There are two tracks that a person could take further back in the property if they chose to. Just be mindful of exhaust in tall grass. Walk-in access from the main gate is pretty doable too!
This property is located just a few minutes north of Hot Springs here in Fall River County, on the southern edge of South Dakota’s Black Hills region. This 75-acre tract is a limestone-capped section of a working cattle ranch, set apart by steep canyon breaks that limit vehicle pressure and livestock traffic. While Polled Herefords are raised as the main part of the family ranching operation, the cattle seldom reach this corner of the family ranch due to the rugged nature of this area.
