How LandTrust works

Short-term hunting leases

LandTrust connects hunters with farmers and ranchers who open their land a few days at a time. Book the property for your dates, pay for just that trip, and the land is yours alone while you’re there.

  1. Find your ground

Browse properties by species, location and dates. Listings show acreage, maps, lodging and reviews from other hunters.

  2. Book your dates

Pick a package, message the landowner with questions, and pay online. No year-long lease, no club dues.

  3. Hunt it alone

No other parties on the property while you’re booked. Check in with the landowner, learn the boundaries, and go hunt.

Traditional hunting lease

  • Full season or year, paid up front
  • Found through a friend, outfitter or club
  • Shared with every lease member, all season
  • Locked into one property

LandTrust booking

  • A single day up to about a week, paid per trip
  • Search, compare and book online
  • Only your party on the land, on your dates
  • Hunt a different property every trip

Why hunt private

Private land hunting in South Dakota

Public land gets crowded once the season opens, and game moves onto private ground to avoid the pressure. Private land holds much of the best habitat, and booking it means you’re the only party out there.

Sources: CRS R42346, Federal Land Ownership (2024); SD School & Public Lands Annual Report FY2024; BIA Surface Inventory, Great Plains Region (May 2025); USGS PAD-US 4.1 (Corps, Reclamation, DOE and state agency acres); SD Game, Fish and Parks private lands case study (80% private)

No crowds on your dates

Walk-in and public access programs are great, but popular spots fill up fast. A LandTrust booking gives your party the whole property for the trip.

Arranged with the landowner

You need a landowner’s permission to hunt private land. Booking through LandTrust arranges it directly, with no cold calls or handshake deals.

We have several dog towns that are in serious need of control. They have not been shot for several years.

Excited to be working with LandTrust to implement some shoots on some properties in need of critter control. These towns have not been bothered for several years. Message me for the details, looking forward to telling you more about this limited opportunity.

Martin, South Dakota • 1,764 Acres
Seth and Sam Ireland were awesome host and we had a fun weekend hunting. I was able to harvest a very nice whitetail buck. It was tough hunting due to crops still being in the fields. I am very happy with the buck I shot and will be returning in the future.

Brody K was excellent. He maintained communication before, during and after the hunt. Highly recommend. We asked questions weeks before our 12 hr travel and was quick to answer our questions. We text what time we would arrive and he was there at the same time. Can't wait to go back and will go back! 10 outta 10.

Beau was very friendly and responsive. Did his best to steer me in the right direction and gave info that helped me out during my stay. I was able to get one good stalk in but did not get an opportunity on another. Saw several antelopes while out there but on adjacent property. Did see quite a few whitetail and tons of bird game. Would definitely like to make a trip back out there closer to the rut. Would definitely recommend the property for others!

Brody was an excellent host and had great communication! The pictures of the property are true to the land and there was an abundance of prairie dogs. I shot just as many dogs the 4th (and last day) I was there as I did the first. The other nice thing is that the land boarders the Grand River Nat’ Grassland and their dog town extends in to the grassland, so it feels like you honestly get more for your dollar. I fully intend to come back out and already am planning the next trip!

Made a last minute change of plans and Mr Parry was able to accommodate my change of plans within 24 hours notice. Had a beautiful SD Merriam on the ground in less than 3 hours after entering the property. Highly recommend this property. Easy access and very affordable. Hope to come back to fill another tag soon!

Great news! Hunter was able to get the job done early on during his first morning. He told me the birds were everywhere this morning, plus he saw another gobbler strutting on his way out! Still 2 weeks left of season!!

Brad and his family were very friendly and Brad gave me his observations of how the birds used his property. I was lucky enough to harvest a bird within an hour of my 1st setup. 9
