McCormick Acres
McCormick Acres is a 27-acre, 200+ year old farm nestled in the Cowanesque Valley in north central Pennsylvania, also known as the “Pennsylvania wilds”. The farm has been used for a variety of purposes over the years. It has been a dairy farm, agricultural farm with annual crop growth, and is currently in its beginning stages of being developed into a self-sustaining regenerative farm. We currently mow and bale our big field and have plans for establishing a wildflower field, perennial gardens, apple orchard, and annual vegetable garden.
Bordered by nearly 1,200 feet of private Cowanesque River frontage and surrounded by farmland and wooded ridges, the property offers a unique blend of natural beauty, quiet seclusion, and hands-on outdoor experiences.
We are growing our “petting zoo” with a small group of goats that are used to help manage overgrowth and provide entertainment for us and guests. Our potbelly pig Wilbur loves to be a part of the action as well.
The property is great for bird watching as we get a variety of native bird species and have a mating pair of bald eagles that frequently fly up and down the Cowanesque River, which runs along the backside of our property. We are 33 miles from Cherry Springs Park, one of the few official “dark sky” locations on the east coast. So needless to say, the star gazing is amazing here!
The landscape supports more than just scenery. From field to riverbank, the farm is alive with birdsong, flowing water, and natural discovery. Visitors are welcome to pitch a tent or bring a small pull-behind camper, making it an ideal basecamp for adventures into the surrounding wilds. You're just 15 minutes from public hunting ground (Pennsylvania State Game Lands # 208) and 30 minutes from the hiking trails and overlooks of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and Colton State Park. Whether you’re fishing the river, foraging the edges, or simply watching the stars rise over open pasture, McCormick Acres offers space to slow down and explore the outdoors at your own pace.
