How LandTrust works

Short-term hunting leases

LandTrust connects hunters with farmers and ranchers who open their land a few days at a time. Book the property for your dates, pay for just that trip, and the land is yours alone while you’re there.

  1. Find your ground

Browse properties by species, location and dates. Listings show acreage, maps, lodging and reviews from other hunters.

  2. Book your dates

Pick a package, message the landowner with questions, and pay online. No year-long lease, no club dues.

  3. Hunt it alone

No other parties on the property while you’re booked. Check in with the landowner, learn the boundaries, and go hunt.

Traditional hunting lease

  • Full season or year, paid up front
  • Found through a friend, outfitter or club
  • Shared with every lease member, all season
  • Locked into one property

LandTrust booking

  • A single day up to about a week, paid per trip
  • Search, compare and book online
  • Only your party on the land, on your dates
  • Hunt a different property every trip

Why hunt private

Private land hunting in New York

Public land gets crowded once the season opens, and game moves onto private ground to avoid the pressure. Private land holds much of the best habitat, and booking it means you’re the only party out there.

Sources: CRS R42346, Federal Land Ownership (2024); NYS DEC Forest Preserve (nearly 3M acres); NYS DEC State Forests; BIA Surface Inventory, Eastern Region (May 2025); USGS PAD-US 4.1 (Corps, Reclamation, DOE and state agency acres)

No crowds on your dates

Walk-in and public access programs are great, but popular spots fill up fast. A LandTrust booking gives your party the whole property for the trip.

Arranged with the landowner

You need a landowner’s permission to hunt private land. Booking through LandTrust arranges it directly, with no cold calls or handshake deals.

This 10 pointer has been showing up quite regularly on our cameras. He would be a prize to anyone in our area.

Lots of activity on our ridge where the white and red oak acorns are dropping. Whether you are after deer or turkey. This is a very hot spot right now.

Whether you are a Fall or Spring Turkey hunter, our birds are looking good as they feed on the good crop of acorns that are falling this year.

Our bucks are starting to take an interest in our mock scrapes and they are really feasting on the acorns that have been dropping. We have identified at least one 10, two eights, and a bunch of sixes that have been seen on our cameras.

Its hard to count exactly how many points on this guy but there are at least eight, if not 10+. He has been travelling our ridge munching on the abundance of acorns that have dropped already.

There were two 8 point bucks on my lawn today, August 25. There are dozens of does in the area. This fall looks like it will be really good hunting.

The bucks are starting to show up more and more on our cameras. We can now confirm at least 2-3 shooter bucks. At least one seven pointer and one eight pointer. Its hard to tell from these videos what the exact count is on these deer.

Our bucks sure are pretty when they are in velvet. This nice seven pointer should be a nice one to pursue when you are hear at the homestead.

I had a great time with friends. We saw a gobbler on the property but couldn’t get him to come close enough. We’ll be back next year.
