Located in the western half of Kansas near the Oklahoma border, this unit offers outstanding whitetail hunting, especially on private lands with timber. The terrain varies from flat to hilly, with some steep areas leading down to river bottoms. Early in the archery season is a prime time to spot bucks, but hunting them with a bow can be challenging due to their frequent movement across open prairie and crop fields. During the muzzleloader season in mid-to-late September, setting up ambushes near farmlands where deer feed can be effective. It's important to scout thoroughly to decide the best locations for ground blinds or tree stands. While bucks are less active in December during the rifle season compared to earlier months, the open landscape often leads deer to travel between patches of trees as they are hunted.
