Our property is small, but there are many opportunities with the abundance of game animals and birds that frequent the property.
To ensure we manage the property's wildlife populations, we can only offer a limited number of hunts. Please inquire for availability or if you're interested in single-day hunts.
Two-Day Waterfowl hunt on the banks of the Clarks Fork Yellowstone River. $150.00 per gun, per day. Maximum number of hunters is four people in each party, unless authorized prior to arrival.&nbsp;
The following gear and decoys may be available for the hunt on request:

We are positioned on the banks of the Clarks Fork Yellowstone River just 25 miles outside of Montana's largest city, Billings. This beautiful riparian bottom is home to my wife and I, with our three young kids since July, 2020. The original homestead still stands a few steps from our current family home. The property is home to a wide range of wildlife and birds and has been farmed and pasture leased to cow/calf operators over the years.&nbsp;
We live on the edge of this great property and want to share the beauty of Carbon County, Montana, with you. Our property is a great resting point for people on their way to Red Lodge, Montana; Cook City, Montana; Yellowstone National Park; or Cody, Wyoming.&nbsp;

Clarks Fork Yellowstone River Waterfowl | 25 Miles from Billings

Visit us for a waterfowl hunt on 650 acres of irrigated fields, drainages, and canals. Trained bird dogs are welcome. 3 bedroom, 2 bath lodging included.&nbsp;
Welcome to the Lazy JC, where the echoes of history blend with the rugged nature of the river. Nestled along the banks of the Yellowstone River, we invite you to step back in time and immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Eastern Montana.
You'll be greeted by the sight of hundreds of acres of fields nestled among towering cottonwood trees.&nbsp;
Set out on a hunting experience across our fields and riverbottoms where deer, pheasant, turkeys, duck, cranes, geese, coyotes, and bobcats are prevalent.&nbsp;
Bring your river boat and explore miles of the untapped river. You'll find a public boat ramp within feet of the property. Walleye, bass, sauger, ling, drum, catfish and the occasional trout can be caught on the river and within certain sections of the irrigation canals. While you're on the river you'll also see nesting bald and golden eagles in the summer.&nbsp;
The farms consist of two, end of the road, separate parcels that straddle an additional 200 acres of public lands. Total acreage is around 650 private acres, with approximately 440 irrigated field acres. River bottom parcels on the opposite across the river require a boat to access. The fields are coming out of wheat, barley, beets, grass and alfalfa. All of the irrigated fields are accessible by vehicle in dry weather, however we restrict vehicles from driving into the riverbottom lands during hunting seasons to preserve deer bedding grounds and prevent fire. 
There are a couple thousand acres enrolled in Block Management in the vicinity for additional hunting opportunities. The farms cross the river twice and provide significant opportunities for whitetail deer, turkey, upland game and migratory bird. A boat is necessary to access the parcels across the river for turkey hunting. Currently, our deer hunting is limited until whitetail deer populations recover.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
The town of Hysham is a few miles away and provides fuel, light groceries, hardware store, and a bar restaurant.&nbsp;

* All hunts are do it yourself and we do not represent or offer any type of hunting or fishing guiding services.
** A boat is needed to access the river bottom parcels across the river for Turkey hunting.
*** Well trained bird hunting dogs are welcome. No other type of non-hunting aid pets are allowed without prior permission from the landowner. We require all hunting dogs to be crated if brought inside the lodging at all times.

Waterfowl Hunt & Lodging: Prime Bird Hunting on the Yellowstone

Waterfowl hunters should have excellent opportunities for success with our prime access to the Yellowstone, in addition to our sloughs and ag field food sources for ducks and geese.
Well-trained bird dogs are permitted.
Michael Land is our 5th generation family farm, which consists of just over 640 acres on the Yellowstone River. The Ranch was homesteaded in 1920's and began as a sheep operation. We now currently farm the property and manage feedlots on site.
We have about half a mile of riverbottom, with additional access to smaller creeks and tributaries.&nbsp;
We are only about 15 minutes from Billings and just 20 minutes from Billings-Logan International Airport.

Yellowstone River Waterfowl Hunt: Farm Food Sources by the River

We have a great area for geese hunting With large alfalfa fields that they routinely are landing in. It would be recommended to have a blind bit there are ditches that surround the fields and a farm road you can drive in and set up decoys the day before or morning of.&nbsp;
Bird dogs permitted as long as they are restrained from getting near the cattle. 
We have about 100 acres of alfalfa hay fields and another 100 acres of grass/clover/alfalfa mix hay fields.&nbsp;
Plum tree grove on the west end of the land and tons of shelter with Russian Olive trees along the creek. Our farm borders another farm on the north side that acts as a game reserve where deer and birds can retreat to.&nbsp;
Spring-fed pond and marshland along with about 1/2 mile of non continuous creek.
Our great grandparents purchased the farm back in the early 1900’s, making it now a 5-generation farmstead.
The farm has about 230 acres in total, with a half-mile of creekbottom on the Twelve Mile Creek. We have over 5 miles of non-continuous ditches that are hotspots for the farm's population of pheasants. The hayfields are also highly productive for whitetails, despite the farm being only about 6 miles from the Heights in Billings.

The late season potential for goose hunters is extremely high. We see thousands of birds consistently feeding in our winter wheat fields!
The Ballensky Ranch is a 7,000-acre working cattle ranch right off Interstate-94. Our vast acreage is a great location for all types of hunters! We have an abundant population of antelope with opportunities for turkey, waterfowl, and whitetails.&nbsp;
Camping is included with all hunts!
The ranch is located just under two hours from Billings and about twenty minutes from Miles City.

Late Season Goose Hunt on Big Wheat Fields | Thousands of Birds

Mostly duck on the the creek, but you never know what you'll find out there. Please see below for regulations on waterfowl hunting.
We are located only 15 minutes from Billings.
Our beautiful 400-acre farm runs along Pryor Creek just outside Billings, MT. With hayfields and agriculture running along both sides of the creek, the creek bottom is a haven for pheasant, whitetail deer, waterfowl, &amp; turkeys. Part of the property also runs up into the surrounding hillsides that have 2 big brush draws where mule deer like to hang out. Pryor Creek also offers some fishing for catfish.
The property has skeet shooting available to warm up for the hunt or just for fun.&nbsp;
