Merriam’s turkeys roost in the tallest cottonwoods and green ash trees scattered along the creek bottoms and wooded draws. Birds frequently move between the roost sites and nearby openings, creating opportunities for both calling setups and decoy spreads in the surrounding meadows. The broken terrain and thick pockets of cover also allow hunters to work into position for close encounters when birds respond cautiously.Turkey hunters will most likely see Merriam's in this part of Montana.

Nestled in the Powder River Breaks, Alkali Ranch spans rolling prairie, scattered meadows, and wooded draws along Beaver Creek. The landscape blends open country with pockets of cover, creating ideal conditions for spotting game at a distance and planning careful stalks across the breaks. Large cottonwoods and green ash trees line portions of the creek and draws, providing roost sites for turkeys and travel corridors for wildlife moving between bedding and feeding areas. E C Ranch East consists of about 650 acres situated right on the Yellowstone River. We are located just outside the Glendive city limits. The property is mostly irrigated cropland with heavily wooded areas along the river. We also have just over a hundred acres of island ground on the Yellowstone.&nbsp;
We don't have lodging available on the property; however, Glendive has some reasonably-priced options for hotels and aribnbs.												&nbsp;

This is a great opportunity for turkey hunters looking to hunt Merriam's in our more mountainous, timbered terrain. We have a good population of birds every spring.
Our family's east property is quintessential Ponderosa pine country, home to elk, mule deer, some whitetail, and Merriam's turkeys. We ranch on just over 3,400 acres about 35 minutes southwest of Forsyth. The ranch is easily accessible from Interstate 94, about a 25-minute drive.&nbsp;
About our Family:
We are newer to Eastern Montana as our family made the difficult decision to leave our family ranch in northcentral Montana, just north of Great Falls, where our family had lived and ranched for just over 98 years. Now, we are proud to call this area home after the learning curves that come with moving to and ranching in a different region of the Big Sky State.

Welcome to the Lazy JC, where the echoes of history blend with the rugged nature of the river. Nestled along the banks of the Yellowstone River, we invite you to step back in time and immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Eastern Montana.
You'll be greeted by the sight of hundreds of acres of fields nestled among towering cottonwood trees.&nbsp;
Set out on a hunting experience across our fields and riverbottoms where deer, pheasant, turkeys, duck, cranes, geese, coyotes, and bobcats are prevalent.&nbsp;
Bring your river boat and explore miles of the untapped river. You'll find a public boat ramp within feet of the property. Walleye, bass, sauger, ling, drum, catfish and the occasional trout can be caught on the river and within certain sections of the irrigation canals. While you're on the river you'll also see nesting bald and golden eagles in the summer.&nbsp;
The farms consist of two, end of the road, separate parcels that straddle an additional 200 acres of public lands. Total acreage is around 650 private acres, with approximately 440 irrigated field acres. River bottom parcels on the opposite across the river require a boat to access. The fields are coming out of wheat, barley, beets, grass and alfalfa. All of the irrigated fields are accessible by vehicle in dry weather, however we restrict vehicles from driving into the riverbottom lands during hunting seasons to preserve deer bedding grounds and prevent fire. 
There are a couple thousand acres enrolled in Block Management in the vicinity for additional hunting opportunities. The farms cross the river twice and provide significant opportunities for whitetail deer, turkey, upland game and migratory bird. A boat is necessary to access the parcels across the river for turkey hunting. Currently, our deer hunting is limited until whitetail deer populations recover.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
The town of Hysham is a few miles away and provides fuel, light groceries, hardware store, and a bar restaurant.&nbsp;

The ranch consists of over 8,000 acres of productive creek bottom meadows, pine tree-covered areas, native grasslands, and deep coulees. Our abundant acreage and habitat composition makes this an awesome hunting destination for Merriam's.
It's recommended that you bring a side by side or ATV during your visit to get around our many acres.

A note on Access:
If it's rained and roads are wet/muddy, the ranch is completely inaccessible. Access to the ranch will be heavily dependent on weather. If we've gotten rain and roads are wet/muddy, we will work with you to either reschedule your trip or refund you in full as the ranch is completely inaccessible.
We are in Montana's Area 7 for spring and fall turkey. 
Our East listing consists of about 8,270 acres.
IOU Ranch is a 3rd-generation cow-calf operation located on the edge of the Missouri Breaks. Our great-grandparents originally homestead this land in the 20s, and now we primarily raise and graze beef cattle. We also have horses, sheep, and goats. We typically calve in March and April and lamb in February and March. If interested in participating in an experience like this, don't hesitate to ask by sending us an inquiry. We'd be happy to do our best to accommodate you.
Our property consists of a mix of productive creek bottom meadows, pine tree-covered areas, native grasslands, and deep coulees. This makes for very good hunting, especially antelope, mule deer, and elk. Hunters may also encounter prairie dogs, coyotes, turkeys, and upland game birds. On the other hand, if you just want to get away from it all do some hiking, watch some birds, or even stare at a vast sky full of stars we may be what you are looking for.

Spring Turkey Hunt | Ponderosa Pine Ridges + Grassland Coulees

Bird numbers have held strong this year! Come hunt our population of Montana Merriam's! The terrain does pose a physically challenging hunt. The use of optics are also encouraged. Turkey hunters will be given access to the entire ranch (Upper &amp; Lower) so you can follow different flocks. That's about 12,000 total acres! 
The turkeys have fed with our cattle this winter and they are fat and happy. There are several large flocks always in the area!
The ranch is located in Area 7 for turkey.

This extended package includes 5-7 days of hunting with lodging in the Opechee House and is discounted $50 per person per day.

This is an excellent hunting destination not only because of the long-standing success of past hunters over the years, but also due to our game processing facility in our old school house, which includes a hanging winch, walk-in cooler, and counter tops. The school house does not have heat or water; however, we do have a hydrant and hose outside which reaches to the winch and is great for rinsing out successful harvests. We do ask if you use the school house (a complimentary amenity included with your booking), please thoroughly clean the premises. If you plan on using the school house, please bring your own paper towels and disinfectants. 
Lodging in our Opechee House, an updated 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom home built in the 1970’s is included with this package.
Non-hunting adults (spouses and partners) and kids are free.
