This region lies east of Deer Lodge, adjacent to Interstate 90, and north of Butte. Most antelope habitat consists of privately owned land, except for the Spotted Dog Wildlife Management Area. The limited number of licenses available results in lower hunting pressure on the bucks. It’s advisable to plan your hunt well ahead of time to secure access to some private irrigated fields.

Most antelope can be found near the Clark Fork River and Interstate 90, primarily on private property. Montana State Trust Lands provide hunting access across approximately 3,000 acres. With either-sex limited quota tags, any tag holder has the chance to harvest an antelope. It’s advisable to seek permission from landowners to hunt on their land before applying for a limited license.

This hunting district is located in the southwest part of the state, west of Interstate 15 and southwest of Dillon. The Beaverhead National Forest offers around 70,000 acres of public land, complemented by an additional 100,000 acres managed by the BLM. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks also oversee several Block Management Areas along Medicine Creek. With its broad valleys, open prairie, and healthy antelope population, this area is worth considering. Take the time to scout multiple bucks before committing to a stalk.

This hunting district is home to approximately 213 antelope. The area features extensive public lands, including Beaverhead National Forest, BLM areas, Montana State Trust Lands, and Block Management Areas. These public lands provide ample space to explore and spot antelope bucks. Beaverhead County has three bucks recorded in the record book, so it’s wise to take your time and observe several before choosing one to hunt. Be aware that rain and snow can create slick and muddy conditions, making a four-wheel-drive vehicle advisable throughout the year.

Beaverhead National Forest, BLM lands, and State Trust Land offer extensive public access across thousands of acres. According to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the antelope herd population is estimated to be around 785. Since the archery season coincides with the breeding period, you can leverage their aggressive behavior to improve your chances of success.

This unit is situated in southwest Montana and encompasses the city of Bozeman within its borders. It is a large area featuring numerous mountain ranges. Antelope are primarily concentrated in the western part of the unit, where they predominantly inhabit private lands, making access challenging and necessitating some effort to obtain permission. While antelope numbers in this district have decreased from historical highs, they are currently stable and on the rise.

This unit is situated in the picturesque Paradise Valley, with the Yellowstone River forming its eastern boundary. The landscape mainly consists of mountainous regions, with some areas that may not be ideal for hunting antelope. The eastern part features typical riverbottom terrain, characterized by wide grass flats and sagebrush. Hunters may face challenges accessing private lands, although there are some opportunities on public land. The area sees very few antelope harvested, largely due to limited habitat and access difficulties.

Unit 317 is located just south of Interstate 90 in south central Montana. Majority of the land in this district is private. Antelope numbers are good with some quality buck in the mix. This is an extremely scenic antelope unit with Montana mountain ranges in every direction.

A significant portion of the antelope habitat is on private land, so it’s advisable to secure permission before applying for a limited quota tag. Some antelope can also be located on Block Management Areas and BLM lands. Bucks are distributed throughout the Big Hole Valley, with some residing on Block Management or BLM lands. The largest expanse of BLM land is situated in the southern area. According to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the antelope population is estimated to exceed 1,000.

This district is situated west of Butte and east of Anaconda. Public land options for residents and nonresidents with limited quota licenses are available through Block Management and Wildlife Management Areas, as well as BLM, Beaverhead, and Deerlodge National Forests. However, a significant portion of the land where antelope reside is privately owned. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks estimates the antelope population to be around 160. If you’re aiming for a Boone and Crockett-class buck, this district may not be the best option in the state.

This district is situated on the western side of the Tobacco Root Mountains, along the Jefferson River. While it boasts scenic views, public access can be challenging. It's advisable to secure permission before applying for licenses in this area. Antelope populations have decreased in recent years, resulting in fewer licenses being available. Hunting can be tough, as antelope are widely dispersed, making it difficult to locate a quality buck.

This extensive district is located in Southwest Montana and encompasses a significant portion of the region. Notable mountain ranges within the unit include the Greenhorn and Gravelly ranges to the east, as well as the Blacktail and Ruby Mountain ranges to the west. The area offers excellent public access and maintains a stable antelope population. There are numerous spots ideal for spot-and-stalk hunting, presenting opportunities to pursue mature antelope bucks. Although antelope numbers have decreased in recent years, they are starting to recover, aided by strong fawn recruitment that has positively impacted the overall population.

This compact hunting district is situated in southwest Montana, at the southern end of the Bighole Valley. It boasts a substantial antelope population and offers ample public access through BLM and State Lands. Although there are significant areas of National Forest System land, few antelope are present there. The combination of abundant antelope numbers and good public access creates excellent hunting opportunities for both archery and rifle hunters.

Unit 338 is located just north of Livingston and Interstate 90. It encompasses the majority of the Shields River drainage along Highway 89. The unit is home to a large number of antelope, which can be found throughout the area, with a particularly high concentration near agriculture fields on private land. The antelope populations in this region are stable and have shown a slight increase in recent years.

A few bucks from counties within this district are noted in the Boone and Crockett record book, but finding bucks of this caliber is quite rare throughout Montana.

While antelope populations have declined from historical highs, the overall quality remains decent. These animals tend to be scattered across isolated pockets throughout the area.

Situated in north-central Montana, this hunting district is bordered to the east by the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. It extends from Highway 2 northward to the Canadian border and then eastward for about 75 miles to Joplin. The area is known for dry land farming, oil and gas extraction, and the notable Sweetgrass Hills. Due to its distance from major cities and a general scarcity of high-quality antelope, most hunters typically have access to private land or pair this tag with another hunting opportunity. Although there was a minor die-off that impacted populations, it did not severely affect the area.

Antelope hunting district 404, located in northcentral Montana, is one of the largest antelope units in the state. It stretches east of the Rocky Mountain front, from Great Falls north to Highway 2, and is characterized by nearly all farmed land, with wheat and other dry ground crops being common. The region has very little topographic variation, except for some river breaks along the major water routes. While it can be difficult to obtain a hunting permit for this unit, it is known for producing some of the best bucks in Montana. A recent die-off did cause a decline in the antelope population, but numbers are still present in the area.

The antelope in this region are typically found on private land. The population of antelope in this district has been impacted by a disease outbreak in 2009, and it has taken some time for the area to recover. However, the numbers are now stable and showing slight increases.

This district is situated in central Montana, just southeast of Great Falls. It encompasses a large area, including much of the Little Belt Mountains, but antelope are primarily found in the lower elevations, extending from the foothills into the surrounding prairies. Most of the antelope inhabit private land, making access challenging and often requiring time to secure permission. While antelope populations have declined from historical levels, they are scattered throughout the eastern half of the district. Additionally, hunters can apply for tags for does and fawns.

This district is found in west-central Montana, just west of Cascade, with Great Falls situated at its northern edge. The Missouri River serves as the eastern boundary, featuring a stretch of blue ribbon trout stream. Antelope populations are stable and around their historical average; however, the number of tags available has decreased compared to previous years, allowing bucks to age.

This district is situated in north-central Montana, just northwest of Choteau. Highway 89 marks the eastern boundary, while the northern boundary is adjacent to the Blackfoot Indian Reservation. To the west lies the Rocky Mountain Front and the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Antelope are primarily located in the eastern half of the district. While the population is stable and close to the historical average, the overall number of antelope in this area is relatively low.

Situated in central Montana, just east of the Rocky Mountain Front, this hunting district provides not only excellent hunting opportunities but also stunning scenery. Antelope populations are gradually recovering from the winter of 2011. Each year, quality bucks are taken from public land. While public land access can be challenging, obtaining permission to hunt on private land is possible, albeit difficult.

This district is situated in central Montana, southeast of Cascade. It is bordered to the north by the Missouri River and to the east by the Smith River. With over 85% of the land being privately owned, access can be challenging. However, antelope populations are healthy and have not suffered the die-offs seen in many other districts.

This hunting district is found in west-central Montana, bordered on the west by the Missouri River and Holter Lake. A significant portion of the area lies within the Beartooth Wildlife Management Area, which serves as a wintering ground for deer and elk. Most antelope are found on the Ming Bar, a flat area adjacent to the Missouri River, or to the north on the Sterling Ranch. Antelope populations are stable and on the rise. Although tags are limited, this hunt is primarily an opportunity hunt, with around 150 antelope in this small district that is not specifically managed for trophy bucks.

Located in central Montana, north of Stanford and south of Fort Benton, this district features mostly rangeland in its northern portion, as well as some farm ground. The Missouri River forms the northern boundary of the district. The population of antelope in this district has been impacted by a disease outbreak in 2009, and it has taken some time for the area to recover. The northern boundary is marked by the Yellowstone River, while the southern boundary is adjacent to the Crow Indian Reservation. Antelope are primarily found on private land in this area, making access challenging and often requiring time to obtain permission. Although antelope numbers have declined from historical levels, they are currently stable and on the rise. The buck-to-doe ratio is respectable, and the general tag allows for hunting either sex of antelope.

Unit 536 is characterized by open sagebrush flats and grass prairies, providing an ideal setting for spot and stalk hunting. With a clear view in all directions, hunters can spot antelope herds from a distance. Antelope in this unit tend to be widely dispersed.

This hunting district is situated in south-central Montana, southwest of Harlowton and on the northern and eastern slopes of the Crazy Mountains. Antelope are predominantly found on private land, making access challenging to secure. Most ranches in the area cover large expanses. Antelope populations in this district are very stable, featuring a favorable buck-to-doe ratio. Hunters can apply for a second (B) tag specifically for does or fawns, while the general tag permits hunting either sex of antelope.

Hunt District 540 is situated just northeast of Billings and offers some excellent sightseeing opportunities. Pompeys Pillar, where William Clark from the Lewis and Clark expedition carved his name near the Yellowstone River, is a notable landmark in the area. Hunting can be quite challenging unless you have access to private land, as antelope populations are low, with most herds located on private properties. Access is limited, featuring only a few scattered sections of BLM and state lands, making it difficult to locate antelope in these isolated areas.

This district is located in north-central Montana, north of Havre and Malta, and features a large expanse with the Canadian border marking its northern boundary. Antelope are dispersed throughout the area, inhabiting a combination of private, public, and state lands. Populations have declined following a significant winter die-off in 2010 and 2011. Although the herds are on the mend, numbers remain below historical levels.

This district is situated in north-central Montana, south of Malta, with the Missouri River forming its southern boundary. This district is located in north-central Montana, southwest of Glasgow, with the Missouri River along Fort Peck Reservoir marking its southern boundary and Highway 2 along the Milk River defining the northern edge. Antelope are scattered throughout the district, which contains significant areas of state and BLM land. Following a severe winter die-off in 2010 and 2011, antelope populations experienced a decline, but the herds are now recovering well, though still below historical levels. With a limited number of tags available, there is a good opportunity for bucks to reach older age classes.

This district is located in northeastern Montana. It is north of the Missouri River and the northern boundary is Canada. Good populations of antelope can be found here but herds tend to be widespread throughout the district. Hunters may need to put on a lot of boot and vehicle miles to locate animals. This district is mostly rolling grassland hills and a mix of CRP with dry land farming scattered throughout the district. 

Unit 650 is home to several streams, coulees, and drainages that provide opportunities for stalking. There are enough breaks in the terrain as well that make for good stalking conditions. It also offers good glassing conditions. The eastern boundary of the district is the North Dakota state line. Antelope are found throughout the district, with higher concentrations in the southern half.

This unit offers some excellent antelope hunting opportunities in northeastern Montana. Highway 2 runs the entire length of the southern boundary. Highways 13 and 24 run the length of the district from north to south. As you travel south you get into rougher terrain.

This district is situated in north-central Montana, south of Havre, with the Missouri River forming its southern boundary. The Rocky Boy Indian Reservation is located within the district and is off-limits to hunting, while another reservation along the eastern boundary is also closed to hunters. Antelope are dispersed throughout the district, inhabiting a mix of private, public, and state lands. Following a harsh winter die-off in 2010 and 2011, antelope populations have declined, although the herds are beginning to recover. Nonetheless, numbers remain below historical levels.

District 700 is one of the largest antelope hunting areas in the state and offers not only good hunting opportunities, but also stunning scenery. While it is possible to find good bucks in this district, you may need to put in some effort to locate them. The antelope population in this area is still recovering from the winter of 2011, but good bucks are still harvested each year.

Hunt District 701 is located north of Miles City and covers a vast area with numerous sagebrush flats, rolling grass ridges, and open prairies. This region offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of eastern Montana's prairies. The district is known for its large expanses of prairie and sagebrush flats, which provide good habitat for antelope. However, some parts of the area may be very flat, making it challenging to get close to antelope.

This hunt district is located between the Bighorn River and Tongue River in southeast Montana. The northern border in some areas is the Yellowstone River. This area has lots of private land and holds abundant numbers of antelope. Hunters can make the short drive from Miles City and Billings.

Unit 703 encompasses a significant region that covers large portions of Dawson, Wibaux, Richland, Prairie, and Fallon Counties. Its landscape is characterized by rolling grassy and sagebrush ridges, open prairies, and scattered breaks. This area is an excellent place to escape and appreciate the prairies of eastern Montana. During the early season, antelope can be found in small isolated groups that are rutting. Water holes can be a good source of hydration during dry years. As the season progresses, the size of antelope herds increase, and by the end of the rifle season, they can typically be found in very large herds.

Hunt District 704 is situated between the Tongue and Powder Rivers, offering a stunning landscape for hunting, characterized by rolling prairies, expansive sagebrush flats, forested buttes, and steep river breaks. Upland bird hunting can also be excellent, depending on the year. However, in recent years, a decline in animal numbers has resulted in fewer licenses being issued. While antelope are still present, hunting them has become considerably more challenging.

Hunt District 705 is located in the southeast corner of Montana, with the Powder River along its western border. This district is a stunning place to hunt, with rolling prairies, expansive sagebrush flats, forested timber buttes, and steep river breaks.
