Despite this region of Montana suffering in recent years with mule deer kill, the ranch has good numbers of deer. We have access to BLM and State of Montana lands, in addition to our 3,500+ acres. Habitat is wide open with large pieces of rolling rangeland, in addition to draws, coulees, and cuts, which provide good cover for wildlife. We do have some timbered buttes and draws as you get further south into the ranch.
Harvest Requirements:
To steward our population, please harvest a 3x3 or bigger. No spikes or bucks smaller than 3x3. Does can be harvested.&nbsp;&nbsp;
For overnight stays, RV and camping is available to you and your hunting party to add on to your booking if you wish to stay on site here at the ranch during your hunt!

HD 705 Mule Deer Buck Hunt | Grasslands + Ponderosa Pines

Hunt includes lodging, transportation, guiding, and lunches. Breakfast and supper are available in Ekalaka, which is 4 miles away. The cabin also has a kitchen if self-cooking is desired.		
Deer utilize the wooded draws and creek corridors that cut through the prairie landscape. These areas provide bedding cover and travel routes as deer move between feeding areas and thicker vegetation along Beaver Creek. The breaks and tree-lined draws create natural funnels that can produce productive setups during morning and evening movement.					
Nestled in the Powder River Breaks, Alkali Ranch spans rolling prairie, scattered meadows, and wooded draws along Beaver Creek. The landscape blends open country with pockets of cover, creating ideal conditions for spotting game at a distance and planning careful stalks across the breaks. Large cottonwoods and green ash trees line portions of the creek and draws, providing roost sites for turkeys and travel corridors for wildlife moving between bedding and feeding areas. The terrain encourages hunters who enjoy covering ground, glassing from elevated vantage points, and working through the draws where animals tend to hold.
Guests consistently note the abundance of wildlife across the ranch, with regular encounters with turkeys, antelope, and deer. The open prairie allows for long-range observation, while the thicker draws and breaks offer opportunities to close the distance. Landowner Mac is known for his welcoming approach and willingness to share helpful insight about where animals are moving on the property. A small on-site cabin provides comfortable lodging for hunters and serves as a convenient base camp after a full day exploring the ranch.
The ranch is easy to navigate and offers a variety of hunting setups, from glassing the open hillsides to working through timbered draws where birds often hold. With strong wildlife activity, scenic views across the breaks, and a host who takes pride in helping guests have a productive hunt, Alkali Ranch offers a rewarding hunting experience in eastern Montana’s Powder River country.

This extended package includes 5 days of hunting with 5-Nights of lodging in the Opechee House. Your first night of lodging will be the night before your first day of hunting. No hunting on arrival day. Guests can book up to 7 days and nights.
Our ranch holds both mule deer and whitetails. Our prairie pines and juniper breaks are hotspots for muleys, while it's not uncommon to find whitetails in the lower ground near our creekbottoms. Mule deer will be tougher to work for.
Interested in Antelope or Fall Turkey as well?
Deer hunters will have the option to add the ability to hunt antelope or Fall turkey for $500/hunter. Please reach out to LandTrust after booking your deer hunt to complete the add-on.&nbsp;
This package includes complimentary use of our game processing facility in the old school house. More info below:
This is an excellent hunting destination not only because of the long-standing success of past hunters over the years, but also due to our game processing facility in our old school house, which includes a hanging winch, walk-in cooler, and counter tops. The school house does not have heat or water; however, we do have a hydrant and hose outside which reaches to the winch and is great for rinsing out successful harvests. We do ask if you use the school house (a complimentary amenity included with your booking), please thoroughly clean the premises. If you plan on using the school house, please bring your own paper towels and disinfectants. 
Lodging in our Opechee House, an updated 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom home built in the 1970’s. NO DOGS.
The house is unavailable from Dec 1-April 1 due to snow conditions.
